I have a 7710, but my trackpoint has a rather sluggish response to movements (almost like the rubber eraser is loose and making it non responsive). Particularly sluggish response when I try to navigate the arrow pointer downward on my desktop. The eraser seems loose on the plastic arm, it moves but the pointer does not. I don't know if design flaw or if I'm just not familiar enough to using them or if it is just a bad eraser and if I replace it may be better.

I would like to know what others are experiencing when using the trackpoint. Is it as I'm describing?

I've read from others who have the 7510 that the crackling may be from sound vibration rattling the trackpad buttons. This does not happen on my 7710 but probably because the proximity of the speakers to buttons are further apart on the 7710 than the 7510.

If the crackling is annoying/bad I would probably contact Dell Pro Support and let them know. See what solution they offer. You could possibly argue that it is a flaw and that it needs to be resolved. They may offer to replace the palm rest (to replace the trackpad and trackpad buttons) or maybe replace the speaker assembly. It would at least make Dell aware that issue exists.

I had this issue, it is indeed the trackpad buttons causing what sounds like a blown speaker.

There is a fix, but it involves taking off the palmrest, which can be a task for the uninitiated. I simply laid down three strips of duct tape on the surface where the touchpad buttons rest, which otherwise is metal. The tape provides some padding from the speaker vibrations, greatly diminishing the buzz you'd otherwise hear. I don't know how prevalent this issue is, but I did experience it on my original and replacement unit.

I share your disappointment about this UHD screen... When I unpacked and turned on my machine for the first time, the first thing I did was looking for the key-combination to turn up the brightness. Unfortunately, it WAS already at maximum brightness... I couldn't believe it! Soon after that, I moved my head 10cm and was confronted with the realisation that on this tiny 15" screen, the corners, the bottom AND the top of the screen "fade" compared to the center-of-view. It's not the same effect as a TN screen where the colors start to invert, it's more like turning down the contrast of an image. But it's SO bad, that I actually find myself having to move my head to the right in order to be able to comfortably read the time and date in Windows 10 system tray. I mean, I can read it, but the characters appear as if they are 50% grey instead of 100% white...

I've been trying incredibly hard to tell myself that I wouldn't be bothered by this once I started to USE the machine instead of evaluating it under a microscope, but the effect is SO severe that it has become a constant nuisance each time parts of the screen feature large even-colored areas. Which is: MOST of the time. My eyes are constantly drawn to the darker bands near both edges.

I went back looking at my rusty old M4500, which features a 1600*900 TN screen. By no means a "great" screen, plus it's 5,5 years old. It shows the well-known color-inverting, but it's actually BRIGHTER than this new superduper UHD screen, and most importantly, under normal circumstances (without making extreme head-movements), there is NO noticable darkening or brightening, the screen is EVEN, and you have to change the angle a LOT further before you become distracted by the shift in contrast. In fact, I seem to notice that my eyes become TIRED very fast while I'm working on the new machine.

It is SUCH a shame, because there is a LOT to like about the screen, and the machine as a whole. The colors are very vivid, pictures look much nicer than on the M4500. The resolution is also absolutely fantastic, and I like the flexibility to use intermediate resolutions like a very workable 2048*1152 when needed. I love the aesthetics of the machine, I love how solid it feels, I love the feeling of the soft-coating of the chassis. I love the incredible performance of the 512GB PCIe SSD. I'm not quite sure yet how I feel about the keyboard, but it would never become a dealbreaker.

I feel thoroughly depressed... How to handle this? I never sent back stuff to a manufacturer. Don't even know whether it's possible. But I'm at the point that I would do ANYTHING to be able to exchange this machine for the same model, except with a DECENT FHD IPS screen. :( I don't care about losing color gamut or whatever, I just want a bright and even screen at this point...

Thanks so much for your advice. Will try that this weekend. The sound is great, compared with my old M6500, except for this annoying 'bug'.
By the way, does this cause my unit lose Dell's warranty? I'm living in Japan and have no idea whether can get a direct support from Dell here. Anyone here has experience on Dell warranty in Japan?

I'm on same boat with you, except that mine is FHD IPS. Very excited waiting to try the screen, expecting it at least better than my old m6500. But actually a full disappoint. It is totally DARKER, at full brightness, besides annoying yellow tint. I expected a vivid and bright screen, from its 'IPS' naming. Tried every setting and driver update, except for a full OS reinstall. Wondering they shipped me the wrong one (a non IPS) or this is a fault one.

I've noticed a little delamination starting on the bezel, beneath the screen. Gentle pressure will not get it to stick again. I won't mess with it out of caution for the screen.

Do service manuals for Dell workstations exist? If not, how do you find parts numbers for Fans, Keyboards etc. if you want to replace/upgrade?
I am talking about something like this.

You can get a service manual from support.dell.com. It shows how to replace everything, but it I don't think it lists out the individual part numbers.
You can call Dell spare parts (US) at 877-372-3355 -- I think that's the right number (it's always hard to find) -- if you need to purchase a specific part.

May I ask which screen you ordered exactly? This sounds like exactly what I need, compared to all the downsides I experienced with the UHD IGZO screen.

I'm still considering taking steps (or at least trying)to have this machine swapped for one with a decent FHD panel. But obviously this only makes sense if the alternative screen absolutely certainly fixes those particular issues.

If you have an empty, evenly-colored, background, do you experience noticable darkening and loss of contrast in the corners and near the edges? How far can you change the angle of the screen before you notice the same effect in the center-of-view? (if at all)
