    No, 980M will only fit in a 17" system. There are two kinds of MXM, "a" and "b", (difference being physical dimensions only). 980M is a "b" card while 7510 only has room for "a" cards.

    If you have Thunderbolt you can look into external GPU enclosures.

    well, they do. Their website you can recover your drivers. And they do offer the Dell factory Image that you can restore to that I mentioned. But they don't offer a disc with just the drivers alone anymore. Probably because the driver updates change so often, nobody would use it because it would be out of date the moment the shipment left their facility.

    Or are you looking for Dells own backup utility? There is this below, but I have not tried it.

    Did you ever get this working? I have tried several miniDP to dual link DVI adapters and cannot get my HP LP3065 working on this machine. Maddening!

    I have tried:
    • ( miniDP -> DP ) -> ( DP -> Dual-DVI )
    • brand new visiontek miniDP -> Dual-link DVI
    I know the DP -> DualDVI adapter works because I used to use it on my HP 8460w notebook to great effect. This is really infuriating on a brand new laptop.

    The new Visiontek adapter seems to just make the system hang a little while and then it never detects a display, but I can't find anything relevant in Event Viewer.

    I don't have one on hand to try and confirm whether or not this works. However an easy gotcha I wanted to mention (and maybe you already checked) is if your DVI cable is actually a dual-link cable. It should have all 24 main pins.

    I downloaded the GPU-Z utility and ran it. When I switch the view to the AMD card it does not report on power usage. If I switch to the internal Intel gpu then it says that it is using 2.8Watts. Not sure why it won't report on the AMD. The GPU Load is 0%, but the GPU Temperature is 46 C -- why would the chip be that hot with zero load?

    @SoftDev , I wouldn't worry about it. Mine is at 42c at idle. AMD run a little hotter maybe. But is normal and could be the software is not very accurate that is reporting.

    Oh, if you haven't done it, try disabling switchable graphics in the BIOS and see if that makes any difference.

    For the AMD card there is a FirePro Settings application. When you click on the Advanced tab another application opens and it has a Power section. I clicked on Switchable Graphics Global Settings. From there I selected the Force Power Saving Graphics option for both Battery and Plugged in. This option is supposed to force the gpu built into the Intel i7 to handle all gpu requests.

    I then ran the Unigine Heaven benchmark and I could see that the fps was lower than I previously experienced before making the setting change. I had the AMD System Monitor running in the background. It appears as though the AMD was not being used during the benchmark, which is what I was expecting, but gpu-z reported the temperature was still at 47 degree C.

    So I'm thinking even with "turning off" the AMD card it still draws power. The only things I've accomplished is that, if I ever install an application that can use a gpu, that it won't use the AMD card and use additional power. Not exactly what I was hoping for but if the card is using under 10watts, I'll have to just live with that.

    I'm talking about turning off switchable graphics in the BIOS, and seeing if that changes how your miniDP->DVI adapter behaves. The AMD GPU may have more luck than the Intel GPU?

    If switchable graphics is on in the BIOS, all displays are driven by the Intel GPU. The AMD GPU does its job by flushing stuff over to the Intel GPU's frame buffer for display. You can choose how this works and which apps use which GPU (as you've investigated above).

    If switchable graphics is off in the BIOS, all displays will be driven directly by the AMD GPU. This may make a difference with your miniDP->dual-port DVI adapter.
