    I'm also curious about the screen and sound quality since I'm considering the 3550 with the backlit keyboard option...

    Thanks

    I got a 14" Belkin sleeve thrown in. Black on the outside and red inside .
    It is not a tight/snug fit. There is probably around 1cm of wiggle room.
    Also have a 4 cell battery that I use it in as well.

    I like it because it was free, and when tossed in a backpack its wedged between books so it doesn't move.

    @SimoxTa, mrniceguy

    3450 with 1366 x 768 here.
    Good colour, the blacks are ok with some tweaking. It is somewhat grainy, but I don't really notice. Viewing angles are average. Movies look good head on, it's ok for gaming (no blur, not that there should be)... but it's definitely a business notebook.

    I'd rate the screen alone 3.5/5.

    I received my Vostro 3450 that I bought last week during Canada's Black Friday sale. After almost a year debating between the Thinkpad T420 and Vostro 3450 I finally took the plunge and bought the Vostro 3450 instead as the price point and features were just right.

    I compared the Canadian Black Friday pricing to the US Black Friday deal for the 3450. The Canadian deal offered a graphics card vs. integrated graphics for the US. I also used an additional 10% coupon code which made the deal a little warmer.

    I read the reviews of the Vostro 3450 about the dim and grainy screen and bad view angles. Personally I don't find the screen grainy at all, but then again I'm used to matte screens on my notebooks/netbooks. The viewing angles aren't that bad either. If you're used to a glossy screen, it may take some getting used to.

    I have sensitive hearing and my primary concern is a noisy notebook. Heat from a notebook doesn't bother me. The fan on the 3450 has been running on and off but can only hear a slight whir. Haven't noticed any flex at all. Seems quite sturdy. I'm still getting used to Windows 7 as I've only used XP in the last few years. I'm happy with my purchase...at least for the moment.

    i thought about getting a 4 cell so i could use normal sleeves but id then have to carry the 8 cell separately or always carry the power adapter. neither of which i want to do.

    i think i need something though im rapidly scratching the crap out of it.

    Thinking about the 3550 here...is the sound decent for movies and music or does it sound like an old alarm clock radio?

    the sound quality isn't great, but that's to be expected on a business laptop. But you should be able to watch movies and listen to music fine, or use earbuds. Also, the speakers are on the bottom front, so don't muffle the sound by accident.

    Can the video card on the Dell 3350 be changed/upgraded?
