I don't have one so I'm not sure the truth but it's weird that you can configure it with 2 standard HDDs and 1 ODD, if it can't fit all three? How does Dell install them then? Since it's the same chassis as the M6400, can anyone chime in?

I didn't have that luck. Mine was to be delivered on the 16th of december, but came in last week. It was shipped a day after the M6500 was announced , so therefore i couldn't cancel it on time. What are the odds....

alot of dell 17 inch machines can take two hard drives , including their cheaper consumer line , and plenty other 17 inchers out there from other manufacturers support dual drives

    some support 3 drives internally

from what iv read you can have two internal 2.5 drives and one minipcdie ssd , and the media which normally holds your optical drive can be swapped out for the hard drive caddy

the original caddy used to be only 1.8 inch hdd capable but you can buy aftermarket caddys which let you squeeze in a bigger and faster 2.5 inch drive

so looks like you could get 3x2.5 drives and a minipcie ssd all inside the chassis

Does anyone know the difference between going with the FirePro M7740 Graphics and the Quadro FX 3800M Graphics, im going to mostly do 3D graphics on it and renderings, but seems that 3800 would be a better idean the price tag is making me go towards the firepro if it can offer same performance.

The M7740 won't perform as well as the Quadro FX 3800M for sure, since the Quadro is basically an overclocked GTX 280M, while the M7740 is a HD 4860, which is a bit less than the GTX 260M, but the difference in performance isn't that much and while I haven't seen real benchmarks (it would depend on the program), I would probably save the money and go ATI.

Just to set the record straight, the M6500 can support up to 2 of the 2.5" HDD's, or SSD's, and 1 SSD mini card. The optical bay does not have a caddy for a 3rd 2.5" drive.

But if it holds 2 hard drives AND 1 optical drive (and 1 miniPCIe drive), you can replace the optical drive with a caddy for a 3rd hard drive.

Ok guys, remember, the first person to get their M6500 will need to provide some high resolution screen shots. :D ;)

Sorry but there is no caddy for the M6400 or the M6500. The system is only setup for 2 internal HDD's and 1 SSD mini card.
