The last that I have heard about this is the card causes issues for the older systems. However, I have not seen anyone trying to use it on the M6500.

That might change... I might give it a go when I get the chance!

    Hello there folks!

It's my first post here, but I've read almost all posts in this thread and haven't found answer to my problem.
I'm about to buy used M6500 with an i5 CPU, but I'm hesitating. Will the 128 GB mSATA SSD + 2x1TB RAID-0 work on this CPU or will this be a problem? From what I've read on the official specs, maximum capacity of the mSATA is 64GB.

Also, are there any advantages (other than 4 RAM sockets) for having an i7?

    Thanks in advance!

I have a Crucial 240GB mSATA SSD+ 2x1TB RAID-0 with a i7-X940 in my M6500. The hard disk setup is not CPU dependent, so the setup you want will work with an i5 CPU.

Advantages for having an i7? More cores to do more work at the same time? For normal computer usage, there's not much difference between the i5 and i7.

Kewl. Thanks. I'll hit him up over PM and see if he responds. Not really a big deal for me though. It's more of a nice-to-have and shouldn't stop the initial upgrade.

Haha. I think I might take this on myself then. Card itself is not expensive. It's my time that's more of a premium these days.

Just curious to why you both are going with a RAID-0 setup instead of RAID-1. Is it the case that data redundancy is not important to you or that you just want to create one logical disk? Or possibly that you're not using SSDs in the RAID setup and want to gain better performance using disk drives?

I know DynamiteZerg has already answered your questions. I just wanted to add that there are examples in this thread of users who have mSATA SSDs larger than 64GB. EdgeDC being one of them. As it says in his signature, he has a 1TB mSATA SSD.

Thank you guys so much! Such fast response!

I want to buy the M6500 to use it with 2x 1TB Hitachi 7k1000 HDD for various data + mSATA 120 GB for Windows/crucial software. I know that RAID-0 is risky, so a USB3 3,5" HDD for regular backups is a must ;)

I'll start looking for a good offer on the i7 or go with an i5 CPU. Appreciate your input!

He hasn't been answering his PM since the day he moved places. So good luck!

Let us know how it went! Will be a good upgrade if it works in your case! I might go for it depending on your outcome. :)

Data redundancy is not important in my case. I just wanted one large logical disk and you are right I am using 2x 1TB Hitachi 7k1000 HDD and not SSDs.

If you're using the same HDDs as I'm planning to buy, would you be so kind and tell me about Hitachi's performance in RAID-0
    ?
Also, how is the noise in your opinion - noticable difference between 5400 and 7200 rpm? I'm all about disk performance, so the HDD noise is secondary factor for me, but still would like to know if it is as bad as some people say.
