Did anyone try using the new battery slice for the M6700 on the M6500 and see if it works???

Sorry for the late reply. I am only checking this forum sporadically. The M4 mSATA has worked absolutely flawlessly together with my two raid0 drives since I installed it about two months ago. The M4 came with the latest firmware, so I didn't update anything, just plugged it in.

What I did do however, was to perform a clean win7 x64 install on the M4 using the medium I burned from the Dell install. I ended up abandoning the Dell Control Point Software that somehow did not work as it should. I don't need the worthless RGB and Adobe screen modes anyway, and all that I need works without that software with the tools that are integrated in win7. The system is now more stable than ever (and really fast! :) ).

PS: The mouse / trackpad issue is solved too. Actually the external Logitec mouse died *exactly* as I had some driver issues during the driver update. This led me to believe that something was wrong with the trackpad or M6500 hardware, until I tried the external mouse on an old computer. Talk about Murphy's Law when a mouse dies at the worst possible moment to cause maximum confusion.

Wouldn't it not fit right? If the 6500 is 16:10 and the 6700 16:9, wouldn't the footprint be different? Just like when people are trying to put the 6500 screen on a 6700.

And I was about to mention the 256gb M4 mSATA was only $165 shipped at Newegg and Buy.com. Unfortunately, they both sold out already.

^ Well the docking port is exactly the same. And the battery slice for the M4400 and the M4500 fit the same although they have different screen ratio.

I assume there arent any parts that hinder the clicking, but I was wondering if it will recognized in the bios to work on windows.

    Hi xPat,

One big difference between your and my case: I instantly signaled that I want to upgrade whatever their last offer is (which I did with WWAN + new 5yr ProSupport and CompleteCare + K4000M->K5000M).
This made the whole process more like a "buy" instead of "replacement". And you can't add hardware if you don't know the configuration of that system!
Let's say you increase RAM from 8 to 16GB -> it would collide with 4x 2GB modules already planned etc.

I fear, I can't give you any further "misinformation" that could help you. But I am sure, sales department would be the way to go.

BTW: In their first offers they always forgot about 2 or 3 of these: Bluetooth, Win 7 Ultimate, Blu-ray-Burner, the Pro-Support or 3yr Battery-Service.
I would have been VERY upset if they sent me one of those configurations...

    Cheers,
    Alex

Thanks, Alex. That's exactly the angle I needed. I called Sales and told them I would definitely buy an extended warranty and maybe even an upgraded graphics card, but that he had figure out what the replacement configuration is proposed to be before I could do that.

The sales guy was totally baffled, and said he never heard of any process like this before. After I told him several times that it worked for you, he agreed to research it and call me back. We'll see what happens...

    Thanks again,
    xPat

Thanks for all the info, guys.

The Sales guy basically blew me off - stopped returning my calls. I've already spent way more time arguing with Dell than I care to, so I finally caved and just let them send the "equal or better" on their terms. My guess is I'll get something unsatisfactory, and argue with them some more. We'll see.

Alex, did you get your new system yet?

    xPat

This link may be of help:
    Manage your Order
I'd try getting in contact with sales, telling them that you want the submitted order changed with some upgrades. (At least, if that's what you require.)

If they made a mistake with your order, missing out certain parts or made any mistakes, I suppose it would be easier. You would have the configuration known to you, so you would be able to tell them what should be changed, and if needed, what you would like to have upgraded.

You will probably receive an order-confirmation with the new computer's configuration.
If you don't receive the configuration in your email, but you know the order has been submitted, get yourself informed, get them to tell you what's in the configuration.

One way to find out if your order has been submitted to the factory, is by looking it up in the order status history, using your Customer Number (you should be able to find out from your to be replaced computer's invoice), and your company name or another verification method:

"The Problem" has returned.... freezing up black screen, only hard restart can bring system back.

But when I try to log in my Service Tag to contact Tech Support, it tells me my tag is assigned to an overseas account?? ??

So naturally getting ahold of Tech Support is hard to do now. I just got a Warranty Renewal reminder letter btw. Have a month left and naturally, this issue happens again like clockwork.

Got it last wednesday. I was quite busy migrating my user account and data to new notebook while getting my day work done...

Short comparison review (which maybe belongs to the M6700 thread):

I love it, but (as expected) -> after many years of 16:10 displays (i8600->M90->M6500) it's really hard to get used to that slim 16:9 display. It still annoys me every day. But, well, .. the rest is great.. it's less hot than my M6500 and therefore the fans are spinning slower or are even off. At this time I can play games (as rarely as I do it) with 64x anti-aliasing.
Build quality is better than the M6500 and it feels more solid. I liked the Orange (M6500 Covet) more than Phoenix Red (M6700 Covet) but it is still an eye catcher :)
Even after a few days I miss the right letters on the keyboard while typing faster .. something (size or distance) must have changed.
Didn't do a stress test yet and didn't test battery life.

    Cheers,
    Alex
