    -8X DVD +/- RW Drive

making popping noise top left of computer so heavily leaning towards sending back

    choices
    option #1 $1599
    No Fingerprint Reader
    64BIT Operating System
    Precision Mobile Workstation M6500 Laptop
    Processor: Intel Core i7-920 Processor (8MB L3 Cache, 1MB L2 Cache, 2.66GHz)

250 GB Free Fall Sensor Hard Drive (7200 RPM)

Rep said even though it's glossy its not covet but I added model number if anyone with covet ordered through outlet and can confirm.

    option #2 $1509

    Precision Mobile Workstation M6500 Laptop
Processor: Intel Core i7-740QM Processor (6M cache, 1.73 GHz)
    8 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (4 DIMMs)
500 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) with Free Fall Sensor
    8X DVD ROM Drive

    Genuine Windows 7 Professional
    Silver
    Bluetooth Wireless Card 365
    Digital Microphone
    9 Cell Primary Battery
    64BIT Operating System

I'm mostly using computer for poker(postgres which doesnt use hyperthreading) so will better processor matter? Al i have to do is pop ssd drive into option # 2 and i'm ready to go. Option #1 i get 920 vs 740 (100$ more) then add some ram and bigger hd ($100+). Kinda crappy that it would be glossy and not covet. Which way should I go?

Okay well first off the Dell M6500 does not ship with the i7 920, that is a desktop processor. I would call to clarify with processor exactly it is using because it cannot be the desktop i7 920.
Personally I would go for option #2, since you get more ram, and if I am not mistaken that's the matte RGB LED display, which is great because glossy finish sucks because of the back lit keyboard causing reflections.

I second Crimsoned, glossy screens have no business being on a high end mobile workstation. And I thought only Covet comes with the glossy screen?

Nope the RGB comes in three versions: Covet, regular Glossy, and regular matte. I have seen the Matte, Covet, and Glossy versions but from my understanding in the USA it is not very common to see the regular glossy version.

    @jhstv12

I recommend you speak with Dell, because I am not even sure about that RGB display #P8GC1, it may not even be matte.

Ah well that was why I was having issues finding the non-Covet glossy screens on Outlet lol. Seems like 80% of Outlet are the matte screen. In any case glossy screens should be illegal.

Samsung is just a name they use for the part. My first M6500 came with LG RGBLED even though my spec says Samsung so I called and they explained to me it was just name. So if you want to find out what you will get, then check your service tag enclosed in the tracking number.

    P.S.:

That cpu is certainly 920xm and no covet since it was never offered with non-nvidia gpu.

same model number as on quote for the m6500 I have now. I mean I've never seen rgb matte screen but it looks really nice so i'm assuming its rgb matte screen.

P8GC1 sure is matte. You will get either one of the following:

    1. DR740 LGP, WUXGA, RGB = LG RGBLED
    2. J501T SS, WUXGA, RGB = Samsung RGBLED

The various forms of paperwork that accompanied my M6500 said "Samsung." Yet the panel, as revealed by the likes of HWiNFO32, is LG Philips.

    Not that I'm complaining. :)

The (silver lid) Regular Glossy is new news to me.
