garck did, and it seems to be working alright, apart from the whole "if 2 drives and ODD + mini-SSD, 2 drives must be in RAID" issue.

Thanks... glad it wasn't a rattlesnake as they say. I've been following this thread daily almost since day one. Not sure how I missed that.

Unfortunate that you can't treat them as three independent drives. Can't see wanting to add another full blown SSD in 2.5" bay two just to accommodate an array to get the minipci option usable.

Well, garck's post wasn't in this thread, it's actually in a thread about putting the new SSD in a M4500. Of course, the slot in the M4500 seems to be the same as the slot in the M6500, so...

I thought that they are in RAID, but don't have to be in the same volume. They are still be set up as 2 independent drives, just not in AHCI mode - right? I don't have one of the mSATA drives, so I can't test this myself.

I am currently booting to an Intel 80gb X-25M and have a 500gb 7200rpm drive for storage. I back up to an external drive over eSATA. I have been thinking about buying one of the mSATA mini drives and running 2 storage drives in a mirrored raid array.

With all of my Apps and normal files on the SSD, the storage drive(s) can be allowed to power down and help with battery life.

first post been snooping around forum researching what to get and ended with m6500. Got a Scratch and dent 840qm, 2gb ram, 250 gb 7200, ati M7820, rgb led 1200p, from dell outlet for about 1250 after discount but i added complete care package so came out to 1520 pretax. Gonna dig through the thread to find out what ram I need to buy. Overall how I do?

I noticed that with my complete care I also got pro support instead of regular support is that normal when you upgrade to complete care? Or could I have just gotten complete care w/o pro support?

Are you serious? $1250 for that set up is an absolute steal. Are you sure you got the RGBLED and not WLED? Any coupon for precision available now? Thx.

I had the random freezing bug described earlier in the forum.

I asked for a RAM swap. But I had a replacement:

    RGBLED Screen / Lid
    GPU
    AND Memory.

One of those things did the trick. No more problems

I really don't know. I'm not a M6500 owner, I just check in occasionally because I remember a lot of this stuff from back when I was still thinking about getting one, and thus I like to help other people out when it comes to remembering things (like your ICC profiles, for example. :D ). From what he said in the thread I linked, it seems that as soon as he installs a second hard drive in a bay, the mini-PCIe SSD disappears from the drive list. It only reappeared after he put in the second hard drive and put both bays into RAID 0 (I'd assume RAID 1 would probably work as well). This makes me suspect that you can't have them as 2 independent drives, but you could have it as a single RAID 0 "drive" with 2 partitions. You'd have to ask garck how he has his setup, though.

Yeah its def rgb. There's call in promotion running on 4500 and 6500 20% off when u call outlet. Was only 20% off the unit itself though not the additional complete-care warranty, at least that's the deal I got. I've been watching outlet for about a week when they update stock in morning. Cheapest I've seen rgb screen was listed at 1400 with i720. The problem is very good deals like that don't make it to morning when call center is open and therefore no discount.

about the outlet discount: First time i called said promo was over, 2nd time said promo only on there additional inventory, third time the charm said it applied to all 6500's inventory, so you may need to call couple times.

Very nice. I paid mine in full, but I still think I got a decent deal on mine. Would've loved to save $550 though.
