I have 16gb mem so that is out of question. Worst part of all this is now they are asking me to send the system to them to get it repaired after they sent me the wrong parts. Is this something I really have to cope with? Wait possibly 1-2 weeks or may be even longer for something that isn't my fault? I have a 3 year on-site, NBD warranty, btw.

Edit: So 2+ hours chatting and still not moved an inch. Sigh..

I mean I would ask Dell to send a technician to your home and do the swap right there...no point of paying for on site and then having to ship it out..

That's all I ever asked and it seems they don't want to. What's funny is that they are using an upgraded part(memory) on the replacement system as their excuse.

Yeah I would get some sort of supervisor on the line...paying extra for a service and they keep wanting you to mail it in is wrong.

That is a BS excuse by the way...some gremlin got the wrong motherboard and they are trying a dumb excuse...ask for in home service.

    Hi everyone,

I currently have the 500hd in my m6500, I wanna get an SSD and use it as boot drive and use the 500hd in the extra slot for storage.

Is this the correct way to do it?
Replace the ssd in existing hhd slot, start computer with the dell reinstallation disc and install fresh windows on this ssd, and then put the hdd in slot b and format it for storage.

I am not a tech person, so if anyone can help me simple step by step I would be much appreciated.

My VBIOS version is 62.92.a2.00.09 and it works fine except for some very minor overheating problems on heavy load (which might also be a driver issue).
I wanted to dump the VBIOS with nhale [1] but the current svn build (rev51) doesn't compile on my machine due to type casting problems.

I've always just got on Dell Support Chat and asked them to dispatch only parts, with no tech. They always have let me do the repairs myself... LCDs, Motherboards, Palm Rests, Keyboards... anything. It might take some neck-ringing, but chat has given me better luck. I usually type out the case and answers to the general questions before connecting.

Yes, that is correct. Take the access panel cover off on the bottom and check and see if the bracket, connector adapter, and screws are pre-installed in the 2nd HDD slot. That's where mine was when I got my M6500 two weeks ago.

I highly recommend the OCZ Vertex 2 SSD. I just got a 120GB for around $200 after rebate. You can probably swing 80GB for a boot drive.

yea i opened the access panel cover and there are bracket, connector adapter, and screws.

do i have to do any other configurations?

when i do fresh install in ssd, should i put the old hdd in the 2nd bay or leave it out and put it in after fresh install?

oh i didn't know about the rebate, i just ordered this one today instead
