I don't know if disabling prelongs the battery life but you can use Fn+F2 to disable charging which is a bit faster than going through the Dell battery meter dialog.

correct. The OS software wasn't the big hit in the scheme of things for this machine. Here is the part breakdown and USD amounts according to my replacement machine which just arrived recently. *FYI... There should actually be two SSDs in this list but they accidentally built my replacement machine with a single 256GB SSD and one 250GB HDD instead of two SSDs. They have since corrected that and sent me another SSD and I'm shipping back my old system plus the bogus HDD.

Anyway, you can see from this breakdown of item #'s and price that the expensive items are the processor, SSDs, the display, and the video card.

I messed up by ordering the 4GB of 1600 high speed ram. what a waist. I've since upgraded to 12GB total by installing an additional 8GB of Curcial 1333 speed ram which drops the higer speed modules back down to that speed. Like I said, I made a mistake on that purchase and likwise on the XP downgrade. I've since moved to w7 64 bit and use xp mode for my applications that require it. oh well :)

If I were to do this again I'd order it with the minimum amount of ram and perhaps purchase the SSDs seperately. But I'm very pleased with the performance of the Samsung PM800 and PM22-J SSDs that came with it. If FREEDOS were an option I'd go with it but I wouldn't sweat it too much if that is not an option.

    Hope this helps

*edit: LOL at the $10 i7 sticker and the $20 markup for NOT having a fingerprint reader

I'd be interested to see the item inventory listing for a non-covet. The Orange color and "edge to edge" glass overlay display show as $900 (item# 320-8983). Plus, the $755 "covet" (item # 224-8519). I'm wondering if the non-covet display is still $900 or if the non-covet m6500 simply exludes the $755 item#224-8519.

FYI, this is not what I paid. I got a pretty good deal via a nice sized coupon discount.

I'm thinking about replacing my RGB LED with a WLED. The RGB is too neon looking with reds and greens. I've spent days trying to adjust it with no luck.

Dell quoted me around $500 for the WLED. They said they would not replace it for free since the original part is a RGB LED. I feel confidant I can physically replace it, but I'm not excited about paying $500. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

Did you try running the "Calibrate" function built into Windows 7?

If you have the ATI card, you can tame a bit of the Neon with the Control Center.

You should go to Graphics/Desktops & Displays, select Configure in the menu for the display, then select the Color tab, and lower your saturation a bit.

I've made it 96 and made a great difference. I don't like the need of it, but until we get color managed Windows I think this is the best we can do.

Oh, and I really love the display (even tough I'm not a photographer, so it is a subjective appreciation only).

    Regards,
    Pablo

Thanks for the feedback on the lcd panel. I'm slowly getting used to it. I've tried a ton of different adjustments.

I mainly use linux but still have my win7 partition and it looks pretty much the same in either OS. I hadn't run the calibration utility in win7 but just did and it still looks a bit hot with some colors.

Also, it looks like I have seiko panel. Overall it seems to reproduce colors very well. Some of them just seems a little too bright. I used an m90 for the past 4 years and I guess I got used to its display.
