How much does that chip/card with the GPS and other shizzles actually cost?

And yeah.. I'd find a use for it. Google Earth Pro can be used with a GPS chip, too, if I remember correct :)

ANyone have an issue where when you add a 2nd hard drive in the bay, the M6500 gets confused as to what hard drive to start from? Even though the boot order has 1st drive above the 2nd?

Update...seems to happen if I unplug it and take the battery out...just sits there at a blinking prmopt..eventully says BOOTMGR image is corrupt...
if I go into the boot set up F12 and choose hard drive 2 it will boot...

Shouldnt have any issues for a 4300 laptop...

I just got my 6500 and am pleased with everything except the rgbled. The reds are way too bright. I've messed around with the settings but nothing seems to help.

I'm using linux btw. Although I still have the windows partition and can boot into windows 7 if needed. But it looks the same in windows.

If anyone has any suggestions let me know.

I just had a look at the source code of i8kfan, the tool I use to control my fans and found the link to a Windows version of it:
    Dell Inspiron Inspiron/Latitude/Precision fan control

I have no idea if or how it works under Windows, but maybe someone finds it usefull.

You have a couple of options.

1 - turn down the brightness to around 7 steps up from the darkest setting. This display is capable of being very bright and at the highest settings it takes on a very "home theatre" look in the primary colors. Most people editing photos will have the brightness around 5 to be close to 140 nits of brightness. I posted lots of measurements in January.
2 - check the nvidia settings to see what the digital vibrance is set at. 50 is supposedly neutral. 45 makes the reds look better at full brightness
3 - search through The Zoid's postings and get the calibration profiles I made for him

    Hi,

I'm a bit confused about the latest Intel RST download. I just noticed that back in April a new version was made available in DELLs m6500 download page.

The notes with that download say that this newer version enables TRIM support.

    - Added TRIM support on supported Solid State Drives which optimizes write operations, helps devices reduce wear, and maintains unused storage area running Microsoft Windows 7.

    - Corrects randomly failing or degrading RAID volumes which was a bug found in Intel Matrix Storage Manager version 8.9.

I always thought that if you set the BIOS SATA setting to AHCI then you would need to reinstall the OS in order for windows to install the necessary MS AHCI drivers. That is how it used to be anyway and the way I've set my system up.

But would the latest Intel RST software circumvent all that? Meaning, would we be able to install the latest Intel RST, then boot into the BIOS and set SATA to AHCI and then it will boot into Windows (wiothout having to reinstall the OS) using the Intel drivers instead of the MS AHCI drivers?

And would the RST work only with Intel SSDs? Or would Intel's RAID/AHCI drivers work for non-Intel SSDs too? My SSDs are not Intel but their firmware does support TRIM. I'm wondering if the Intel drivers would be faster than the MS AHCI that I use today.

    Thanks,

    Ben

About 30 seconds to a minute after bootup, my screen (win7) goes black for a second and then returns to normal again. I have the FX3800M with the latest drivers... both the WHQL Certified and I've tried the ISV Certified drivers too.

I've not made any major changes to the Nvidia control panel settings other than adjusting the vibrance and then adjusting the brightness via DCP.

Anyways, just wondering if this is normal or not. FYI, I just received a new replacement m6500 because of a few issues I was having with the previous one. Both of them are doing this. I'm using the same SSDs in the new replacement laptop that I took out of the first laptop. If it is normal with the screen momentarily flashing black shortly after bootup, then I'm cool with it.

    Thanks,

    Ben
