Ran across this Russian review of the new E6540. Don't know if it's legit or accurate, but sounds promising ;-).
    Check it out here

    Thanks for the link.

There are two information I was looking for :
    - brightness : "high brightness"
    - noise : "In idle noise level was only 35.5 dB, while the maximum load - 44.1 dB."

Yes, it sounds promising, but I think I'll wait for a more accurate review from notebookcheck.

Reports of throttling in that link. Uggh. Dell revived my order, but might cancel if we're looking an at XPS 15 mk2.

Paste the URL in Google Translate. That's how I read it.

Well, it turned up today after deciding I'd simply send it back if not satisfied.

Initial impressions are positive. Although not as pretty as it appears in the marketing images, the chasis feels very solid and sturdy. Display is good and sharp, and performance snappy. I purchased with the cheapest HDD available, and plan to install my own Samsung 840 Pro SSD tomorrow.

    These are the specs...

    Intel Core i7-4800MQ Processor
    16GB 1600MHz DDR3L Memory
    AMD Radeon HD 8790M Graphics 2GB GDDR5
Samsung 840 Series Pro 256GB 2.5 inch SATA SSD
    Intel Centrino Adcanced-N 6235 2X2 802.11n + Bluetooth 4.0
    39.6cm (15.6") FHD (1920x1080) LCD
    Windows 7 Professional (64Bit) English

Oh, and one more comment - the AMD and Intel GPU seem to be battling it out for control when using AMDs latest Catalyst drivers. Firefox crashes, and Google Earth does display correctly unless maximised.

Will downgrade to the Dell provided drivers tonight and post back.

After a few more house of use, noticed the LCD is not as good as I first believed. Brightess from left to right across screen is not uniform, with the right side very slighly duller. Not much mind. Most people probably wouldn't notice.

When the screen is black, there's a brighter streak across the very bottom (which I suppose is expected), and a couple of brighter spots near the middle when viewing from an angle. And finally, a pixel grid is slightly visible from the left and right edges, perhaps a couple of inches in. Again, most people wouldn't notice these, but I'm quite fussy and particular unfortunately!

Considering a return and exchange, but last time I did that with a Dell, the replacement screen was worse.

Are near perfect LCDs rare as hens teeth?
