New Latitude 5470

Would have loved a PCIe drive, but didn't have the luxury to configure my latitude. At least I know I can switch to PCIe in the future if things start to get slow.

 

Did you use the windows ISO/drivers from dell, or just the generic w10 ISO/Windows update drivers?

What's your dptf driver version?(look at the previous page about us discussing dptf drivers and thermal control)

 

I used the drivers from dell. It is the same dptf driver version. I guess the cpu being 15w makes a real difference. My CPU idles at 35 degrees C with no fan running.

 

Still.. At idle, both chips should be at 800mhz and drawing under 5W... Intel should have that shut-off-unused-cores logic (someone can provide the technical term)

Guess t460p has a better cooling solution due to the dGPU option

 

I've got the e5570. I don't know if there is a difference in cooling or is just the cpu. The i5-6300u draws about 0.5W in idle.

 

The bigger chassis probably enables better passive cooling due to better internal airflow and and radiation off components such as the heat sink. However, I am surprised to see an idle temperature as low as 35C. Usually, the cooling fan cuts out at around 45C which represents the lower bound of the operating temperature once the computer has warmed up. HWiNFO should be able to read the fan speed so you can see what is happening.

After running a 4k youtube video on Chrome, which is known for the stuttering and sh*tty playback. The 2804 rpm was the maximum fan speed achieved. After the video ended, the fan stopped.

Very nice to hear. Will order one as soon as possible. I don't know about the SD card. It will have a slow transfer speed compared to the SSDs. Maybe just for emergency storage.

 

The card reader is a realtek pcie device. I don't know if it supports uhs-ii, or whether it fully utilizes the pcie bus. Should check the bus speed

You can get a card with minimum 30MB/s sequential write, 80MB/s sequential read. Higher read speeds with a uhs-ii card

Not the best, but it's at least a decent storage device
