    So I got mine

    I5 6300U and intel 520 + 8GB + m2 2280 SSD 128GB +extra 8GB

    BIOS : 1.3.8 ( received with 1.2.3)

    - idle => no fan, CPU temp around 40-50C
    - Full load ( several compilation for about 1 hour with all 4 threads at 80-100% => fan ~2500-3000RPM, noise level is very good in my opinion. CPU never went above 75C and was more around 68C.. keyboard was barely warm on the top right of keyboard in the end but not uncomfortable to use or anything.

Ubuntu 14.04.4 with kernel 4.2.0-27-generic works out of the box, I haven't tested hibernation or fingerprints but all rest works fine ( including buttons and bluetooth)

This is the drive shipped by DELL :

    Device Model: SanDisk X300 M.2 2280 128GB
    Firmware Version: X3520012
User Capacity: 128,035,676,160 bytes [128 GB]
    Rotation Rate: Solid State Device
    ATA Version is: ACS-2 T13/2015-D revision 3
    SATA Version is: SATA >3.1, 6.0 Gb/s (current: 6.0 Gb/s)
SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability.
    SMART support is: Enabled

    write speed :
    1024000000 bytes (1.0 GB) copied, 6.53695 s, 157 MB/s

    read speed :
    1024000000 bytes (1.0 GB) copied, 0.975931 s, 1.0 GB/s

    NOTES:
    - Graphic cards performed better with the second mem installed (2x8GB). I played with preinstalled Window 7 at first and 3Dmark results were better after installing the second mem.
    - keyboard is responsive, coming from non chiclet keyboard I was worried but it is fine.
    - good quality build overall.
    - sound is good too amazingly.

no one's tried 2x16GB DDR4 sodimm chips, or attempted 2xstorage devices yet?

if anyone's taking their laptop apart, take detailed photos?

    I'm tempted to get a E5470 + i7-6820HQ + 32GB ram + 1TB or more ssd storage (1TB mushkin for $230 on newegg comes to mind)

second storage device would help when running VMs...

looking to move away from my 2500k desktop, think 6820HQ is powerful enough

    http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/...-Latitude-14-5000-Series-E5470-Spec-Sheet.pdf

Highest resolution = 1920x1080 (nontouch antiglare or touch glossy)

Being a high-end business machine, I think 1080p is a decent compromise between battery life and usability

Not to mention DPI/scaling issues when I try to VPN into my work (stupid rdp wrapper doesn't allow me to specify resolution/dpi)

Dual storage devices won't happen without hacking; the pictures in the owner's manual are quite clear enough that the M.2 drive and the 2.5" drive would physically occupy the same space. The only way around that would be to hack something with a 7-pin-SATA-to-M.2 adapter to get two M.2 drives in there.

32GB should work, unless Dell actively subverted it in the BIOS.

yeah, i'm wondering if someone attempted that

high-res pic of the internal storage area:
    https://community.spiceworks.com/to...470-trouble-installing-m-2-ssd-bracket-needed

If you cross-reference the E5470 Owner's Manual (PDF), the SATA->hdd cable is above the m.2 slow... possible to do what you suggested (7pinSATA to m.2 adapter to get a secon m.2 drive)...

question is whether the system detects two drives, or if we can put a m.2 inside the WWAN slot (probably not)

eg: something like this, but with proper dimension?

    or
    http://www.addonics.com/products/adm218sa.php

this is interesting.... basically allows RAID two m.2, but still bottlenecked through 1 SATA

I'm just going to be getting a Samsung 2TB 2.5" SSD, and leaving it at that. Expensive, but with no 1TB m.2 drives on the open market and about 1.5TB of data/scratch space I really need on my current laptop, even shoehorning two m.2 drives in won't help me. :)

Pretty much decided on one of these, although I'm waiting for BTO pricing on the T460p to be public and general availability on the i7-6870hq in case either Dell/Lenovo chooses to start selling one of these two machines with it.

Has anyone found the dimension of the WWAN stop? If it's 30mm, there aren't SSDs to put in there even if it's wired for it; if it's 42mm, it might work.

I would speculate that the WWAN slot is 2242 as on the E7450. However, if it's like the E7450 then it's unclear which, if any, M.2 SSDs will work. I can't remember the details but I think the slot has a PCIe interface.

The interesting question if it's 2242 is whether it's PCIe-only or PCIe+SATA. I'm not aware of any pure PCIe 2242 SSDs, but there are a bunch of 128gb and 256gb SATA ones.
