CMOS battery, or main battery? I'd expect to see exactly that on the CMOS battery being removed; if you're seeing this on the main battery coming out you may have a low voltage CMOS battery and need to replace that.

So for those who are running an m.2 2242 in the WWAN slot, what are the specific settings for the BIOS to see this drive? I am trying with an ADATA SP600 and I can't get Parted Magic or clonezilla to see the drive. I am running the latest BIOS from Dell, 1.19.3 (October 2018).

Main battery -- it actually has happened after a cold boot too a couple of times. CMOS would entirely reset if it was the CMOS battery but I don't lose any other settings besides the EFI target. Haven't rebooted in a while so I'm no closer to figuring this one out.

This seems to be a SATA SSD, from what I have read only PCIe SSDs can work in the WWAN slot -- but I have no personal experience.

The MTS400 that is mentioned throughout this thread is a SATAIII M.2, not PCIe

As the former owner of the E5570 (same BIOS) I can confirm that the MTS400 worked for me when I had the E5570. The older BIOSes are available to download so see if version 1.05.00 (May 2016 - I got the MTS400 in June) makes the SSD in the WWAN slot visible.

Thanks for the idea, but I'm not sure I want to revert back when most of the updates since 1.5.0 indicate URGENT status. For the time, I have settled using a single 256GB M.2 in the main PCIe/M.2 slot.

I share your concerns about the security risk but it would be useful for the community if you temporarily reverted to an old BIOS just for checking if an SSD in the WWAN slot becomes visible.

Otherwise, the good news is that SSD prices have dropped substantially during the past year so an upgrade of the primary SSD is much more affordable.

Which processor do you have? ISTR some discussion up-thread that SATA M.2 only worked in the H-processor motherboards, and not the U-processor motherboards.

I am on the most recent BIOS and can try to put the MTS400 back in (although I'm finding it handier in an internal case; this is no longer my main system and the 500gb drive is fine) to see if that still works if I can find some time over the holidays.
