I have not tried to boot from the WWAN - I am using it for storage / applications etc. I would not want to disable the other ports as I am using 2 x M.2 drives.

I would have liked to use a normal 2.5" SSD but my laptop did not come with the required cable and Dell want £49 for one. Not found the cable cheaper anywhere - unless a E7740 cable would work (found one on Ebay)

May be UEFI vs. legacy BIOS -- I was trying to get Linux running on the 2nd drive, and the legacy BIOS (on whatever version was current in early May) definitely did NOT see the WWAN slot as bootable.

Haven't tried again with EFI since having gotten it to work with a boot manager on the main drive.

My bios is from March(updated bios when I first bought laptop in March)

Anyways, it's doable, so if people want to try on their side....

(Again, if you want efi installed on separate drives, completely disable the other drive when during installation. Otherwise, installer might detect boot partition on other drive and install there instead)

Just got myself an E5470. However, it comes with the HD display. Anyone here knows if it's upgradeable to the FHD screen? If yes, what's the part number? I know the swap has been done in earlier Latitudes and I don't think there's any reason to not work with this, but I just want to be sure. Thanks in advance.

I have a question of my own. I’ve been wondering if anyone else has tried to activate WiGig for this model? I found this thread really helpful to read through before purchasing an E5470 from the Dell outlet last week. I found one that has a WiGig antenna installed but it came with the default Intel 8260 wifi/bluetooth card. It seems that Dell will eventually ship this model with an Intel 18260 tri-band to the consumer market (I found some in academia and some other less mainstream markets, but you can't just order one off the Dell web site at the moment.) Any ways, I read up on WiGig and dell claims the E5470 is compatible with their WLD 15 dock with the Intel 17265 tri-band card, and I got one off of eBay. Installation was easy, and the system does have an “extra” brown antenna cable which I have assumed is the WiGig since there is a black and white set for WLAN and another black and white set for WAN.

The system is running Windows 10 pro, and the bios is 1.7.3. The system seems to recognize the 17265 card, and after installing drivers "WiGig" becomes a wireless service I can turn on and off in Windows network & internet "airplane mode" but I cannot get Dell's WiGig Application to install and the Intel Wireless Dock Manager starts with “WiGig is not working, error code 0x1100.”

The card appears in three different places in Device Manager. Bluetooth reports “This device cannot start. (Code 10) STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE”. Also, while the network adapter (which shows up as a 7265) reports that it is working properly, the radio will not turn on and it will not connect to WiFi. As for ‘Intel Wireless Gigabit Drivers’ section where it lists Wireless Gigabit 17265 device as well as Wireless Gigabit User Mode Driver, both devices are reported as working.

Also, in BIOS, the system does report that a WiGig device is present on the system summary.

    Driver versions:

    Bluetooth: 19.0.1621.3340

    Network 7265: 18.20.0.9

    WiGig 2.6.1.92

I have noticed that Dell provides drivers that they are only willing to say work on Windows 7 and 8.1, but the Intel drivers support Windows 10. Has anyone else tried making this work? Would calling Dell get me anywhere—I don’t know if they’d walk me through this “older card” upgrade or not? Thanks for any thoughts / suggestions.

do you have the 3 wires properly connected

not sure why you want a wireless dock.. there're always issues with wireless dock, and you still need to plug in to charge.

(I have a miracast dongle. it works mostly for casting to TV, but won't use it for daily desk work)

the eDock is better (other than taking up a lot of space on your desk, because of the dock location... it's stupid, but works for beancounters who want edock to last a long time)

Thanks for the reply. From left to right I have brown to #4 (there is no #3), white to #2, black to #1 (the latter two being the same way the wires were plugged into the 8260 card that came with the machine.)

As for why, it's mostly because it was a way to save some money and also clear off some room. The laptop came with a WiGig antenna, and I picked up a new in-box Dell WiGig dock for $50 (which I could still return) and the Tri-Band card for $20. I've had a Thinkpad dock on my desk for the last 5 years, and that may yet be what I just have to do, but all in all it just seemed worth pursuing.

I'm currently wondering if there's any chance the 17265 card I picked up has a problem (it seems unlikely to me but I'm not sure how to rule that out). Ideally I'd just buy an 18260 card from Dell but it doesn't seem to be a part they sell--at least not online. Haven't tried calling yet.

That is funny that the dock fits the computer...so elegantly. Well, it would be liveable, and that's a good tip to look for it on eBay. I think you're right about calling Dell. One thing I didn't consider until you mentioned the CPU is if the quad core i7-6820HQ is even compatible. One would think it is, but on the configurations pages it looks like they only let you add the tri-band card if buying one of the 15W TDP chips.

As for photos, this is what the configuration looks like with the 8260 (dual band, included with computer) and 17265 tri-band card....obnoxiously they're right side up in Photoshop but upside down here...
