It's all semantics but the XPS15 uses the HM170 Intel chipset while the Precision 5510 uses the CM236 chipset. The GPU are definitely different but are based off similar Nvidia chipsets but different generations with the XPS15 using the latest.

    My 2 cents

The Precision 5510 has been stuck exclusively with the Xeon 1505M so far with respect to Xeon CPUs.

    According to this source:

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/9990/...tels-pricing-lists-xeon-e3-1575m-v5-with-gt4e

Intel has a line of Iris Pro Xeon chips coming up closely resembling the current models as far as clock speed, TDP and price.

My question is this, will these chips (specifically the 1515M) likely be available in the Precision 5510? This would be ideal for my needs as a Linux developer.

The new parts are listed as:

    Xeon E3-1575M v5 (8M cache, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 3.00 GHz, 14nm) - $1,207
    Xeon E3-1545M v5 (8M cache, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 2.90 GHz, 14nm) - $679
    Xeon E3-1515M v5 (8M cache, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 2.80 GHz, 14nm) - $489

These will compare to the non-Iris Pro counterparts, running P530 graphics (4+2, 24 EUs):

    Xeon E3-1535M v5 (8M cache, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 2.90 GHz, 14nm) - $623
    Xeon E3-1505M v5 (8M cache, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 2.80 GHz, 14nm) - $434

I don't know about the 5510, but this one will be available for the HP ZBook Studio, which may be a better choice for developers anyway due to the fact that it has a complete keyboard.

iris pro doesnt make sense with quadro . i'm not sure additional edram on iris pro cpus significantly increases performance. iris pro does make sense when there is no gpu.
I doubt dell is going to release a version of xps15/ Precision 5510 with just the iris pro cpu. although that'd be ideal for developers and professionals

I both have the 5510 and a BMW - both running 100% smooth. It's like the press, you mostly hear about the bad stories.
