New Dell IDT Audio driver

I've just noticed that, for me, the key benefit of this version (automatic enabling of bass for the external audio) appears to disappear on reboot.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I can't figure this out...I have a 2.1 set up....where do I set up my speakers as 2.1 in the first place with this driver? Just noticed this ...thanks

EDIT: just noticed in speaker properties that subwoofer is 'not present'. anyone?
EDIT2: Subwoofer IS working, just can't find a setting for 2.1 speakers....whatever

 

Any update on this "no bass" problem?

I have this problem when using my M2400 docked. I have to select "1 PC Spk Mute" in the audio properties for bass to appear.

 

We'll have to wait for the next IDT driver update. The previous one demonstrated that it is possible for the driver to detect that something is connected to the audio port and enable the bass. However, there is a glitch which means whatever the driver does when installed gets lost on the next reboot.

Hi Can anybody pls help

i just bought an external soundcard, creative pciexpress. The sound improves dramatically, also on the internal speakers.. 1 major problem though

every 30secs to 1 minute the sound skips, sounds like a scratched cd. it works perfectly without the soundcard (with onboard)

it could be that i need to disable the onboard sound, but how do i do that, i cant find any reference in the bios?

read somewhere that the preocessor downclocks when not being used, going to half speed and that this change also could disturb audio? can this energy saving be swithced off?

 

The two places where you could try to disable the onboard audio are in Device Manager (i) The Microsoft UAA driver for HD audio and (ii) the IDT codec under the sound devices.

It's interesting that you can get better quality audio through the internal speakers. This indicates that Dell have been over-aggressive in removing the low frequencies from the internal speakers.

Did you see this thread about E series audio problems? There seem to be certain hardware combinations which cause problems and, if we can't figure them out, then it's even less likely that Dell will quickly solve the problem. If your problems are similar to those in that thread then I suggest you continue the discussion there.

Not for me, since installing the updated driver I always get full bass when using an external amp/speakers, when I previously had to click on "Mute PC speaker" with the older driver, I'm on XP, wonder what the difference is?

 

Lucky you. I'm also running XP. Something is disabling that functionality for me. I've just spent 20 minutes installing the IDT driver and rebooting to try and figure out is not happening, to no avail.

Do you have port monitoring enabled in the IDT control panel? I have tried both options and it makes no difference. Does the advanced button in the IDT control panel do anything for you? Can you get the IDT tray icon to appear?

Yes, and when I plug something into the mic socket, I get an Audio System Event dialog with a choice of Microphone/Line In/Open IDT Control Panel/Take No Action.

I don't have an advanced button in IDT control panel applet.

Yes, icon appears and disappears as soon as I tick the checkbox in the applet.
