    Hi,

I ordered a 6800 today (4810MQ, 2GB AMD Card etc). The only thing that really worries me about it is the HDD, which looks a bit rubbish. I have a spare 256GB SSD. What I would really like to do is lose the DVD drive, put the 500GB HDD in that slot and use the 256GB drive as my main boot disc. Is that possible? Can anyone recommend a caddy?

The computer is really for compiling massive programs on the move, but I do like a bit of gaming now and again. How does it fair up in that respect? The last laptop I had had a K1100M in and was ok. Is the card on this any better?

Why getting rid of ODD? M6800 got two 2.5" bays and mSATA slot.

I have the same card and it does pretty well in gaming. If I recall from my research, it was about on par with a 770m in gaming, and most things run at 1080p and high, or at worst a combination of medium and high details.

So... I can just throw the second hard drive in there - no messing about?

    Yes, you can.

When you remove the base cover, there are four extra screws next to the secondary drive bay. All you need is a Philips screw driver.

Thanks for the info. This is already looking more promising than the Lenovo I had last time.

Please note that the base cover is fixed by 2 screws, which are located in the battery compartment. So, take out the battery first, then remove the 2 screws and slide the base cover to remove it.

You can find more info in the M6800 Owner's Manual, which can be downloaded here:

What sort of 4k output support does an M6800 with AMD FirePro m6100 provide? Can you get 4k @60Hz somehow? I guess the HDMI at least is limited to 30Hz?

The displayport is 1.2, so you can get 4k @60hz no problems with that. The docking station also gives you 2 more displayports, but I'm not sure how they're broken out, so I don't know if that would give you more connections, or if it's just basically a splitter for the one that comes on the laptop (one displayport can drive 3 1440p monitors daisy chained, but I think it's limited to one 4k monitor).

    Thanks!

So the output part seems to be taken care of, now the question is how to push that in to something... I was planning on buying a 4k tv that would offer me a lot of screen estate. But those things do not offer DisplayPort connectors (except a couple of Panasonics, apparently). Some new ones have HDMI 2.0 which would provide 4k@60Hz capability. But is there a way to convert DP 1.2->HDMI 2.0? Or are there any other potential connections a tv could have for such input?
