Well I am just guessing here, but on this model, the PCIE for the half card slot is probably not a fully functional one as programmed into the motherboard, whereas the WWAN slot is. I would venture that an mSata plugged into that slot wouldn't work either, but would from the WWAN slot.

That's kinda what I was thinking too, but then why even include it in a seemingly fully functional form? You'd think if it wasn't functional, they wouldn't even include the connector for it (just leave it as the solder points on the motherboard), much less have a nice spot with proper screw downs and everything.

    Hi,

I am posting this because i think i am tired of seeking for the resolution on my workstation's video problems.

So the specs goes like this:

    Dell Precision M6800
Ati Fire Pro 6100 GL V
    Intel HD 4600
    Bios version A07

    Drivers up to date:
    ATI: 13.251.1.0
    INTEL: 10.18.10.3412

I keep my laptop connected on a secondary display Dell U2410 A02 through DisplayPort.
I work lots of graphics and need both Illustrator and Photoshop. Illustrator works fine all the time. Photoshop ...from time to time i get this ATI driver error and Photoshop becomes unusable. If i restart the machine Photoshop works great. If the system is put to Hibernate then the PS won't work on wake up, giving me the same "ATI driver AMD driver error has occurred ..." . If i restart, everything goes to normal and PS works again.
Another scenario is if that i disconnect the DisplayPort manually and re-connect it, then the PS goes on the dead line again.

Mention that i have encountered all these situations with or without Switchable Graphics enabled from BIOS.
All Adobe Suite is updated to current versions.

Has anyone encountered the same situation, i mean it's starting to drive me crazy already, having in mind that this is supposed to be a fully working graphic station?

    Any help would be appreciated.

I know i will sound like an a**hole now, ive never had anything but trouble with hibernation. Either it was usb device, wifi card or additional hard drives not turning on as well as driver issues from both nVidia and Ati/amd. My solution was to either use sleep mode which had its own issues or proper shutdown...

Well I am sure it works as a half mini card, with limited voltage and no switch to be used as a regular USB slot. But since I have never looked at the underside or a diagram of one of these I really don't know.

Brandbrite, you might try the latest drivers from Intel and AMD directly if those aren't them, and see if that makes a difference. Too many variables right now that need to start getting sorted through.

I have never had problems with hibernate since I started using it on Windows XP

    Hi Guys,
I ordered M6800 last week, The next day, I received a verification order E-mail and the nightmare started, For two days, I wasn't able to talk to anyone from the verification team, and sat on hold for over 8 hours! (I knew later this usual from Dell) then I gave up and checked my order status page and I found that my order was cancelled due to failure of order verification.
    --------------------
    My M6800 configuration:
    Intel Core i7-4900MQ (Quad Core 2.80GHz, 3.8GHz Turbo, 8MB 47W, w/HD Graphics 4600)
    Windows 8.1 Professional, 64-bit English
    32GB (4x8GB) 1600MHz DDR3L
    17.3" UltraSharp™ FHD(1920x1080) Wide View Anti-Glare LED-backlit Multi-Touch with Premium Panel Gua
    Nvidia® Quadro® K4100M w/4GB GDDR5 (K5100M is too expensive for me)
Hard Drive: 256GB Solid State Drive Full Mini Card
Secondary Hard Drive: 2.5” 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive
Third Hard Drive: 2.5” 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive
    8X DVD+/-RW Drive Slot Load
    Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11ac/a/b/g/n 2x2 Half Mini Card + Bluetooth 4.0
FIPS Fingerprint Reader and Smart Card Reader (Contact and Contactless) Palmrest

I will TRY to order it again today or tomorrow and I want to ask about this order stage, Is it normal to ask about my credit card details?
    Thanks

Did your order include McAfee Antivirus?

My order got canceled twice, because apparently McAfee Antivirus is not compatible with Windows 8.1 yet.

The first order had been in production for two weeks before it got canceled. The second one got canceled immediately when my sales rep tried to order it.

When you pay with a credit card, Dell needs the following information:
    - Type of credit card (Visa, American Express, etc)
    - Credit card number (16 digits)
    - Expiration date
    - Verification/security code (3 digits)

When you order with credit card payment for the first time, Dell Finance will contact you, either by phone or e-mail, to verify that you placed the order. At this time, they may ask you for additional information.

No, My configuration doesn't include McAfee Antivirus, And there is no any error messages or compatibility issues (According to configuration system).

First, The verification order E-mail titled with "ORDER HELD - 1ST NOTIFY" so I should expect another E-mail !
Secondly, The E-mail says "Please note that failure to contact us within 1 business day may result in cancellation of your order", What if I can't speak with anyone because I'm always on hold? and when I contact Dell by E-mail (customer support) explaining my problem they replied with another phone and no one answering!

When I searched for this problem, I found same complaints from many years ago and nothing changed

Thanks for the reply, You helped me a lot :)

Did you call them to know why the order got canceled after production stage? What about the second order?

As you probably know, Dell doesn't notify customers when orders get canceled. It's up to the customer to check the status of his/her order. That's why I checked Order Status on a daily basis.

One day, when I checked Order Status, I got the message "This order number has been changed or canceled". I sent an e-mail to my sales rep, asking him to confirm that my order had indeed been canceled. He contacted me by phone and told me that the order was canceled, but could not give me a reason why.

Since I checked on a daily basis, sometimes upto four times a day, I know that my order was still in the production phase when it got canceled. I don't know why it took Dell almost two weeks to discover that one piece of trial software was not compatible and that this was reason enough to cancel the order.

After the first order got canceled, I got a new quote for the same configuration. When my sales rep phoned me for my credit card details, he tried to place the new order, but it got canceled right away. He had to ask his supervisor to find out why and call me back. When he did, he stated that both orders were canceled because of McAfee not being compatible with Windows 8.1.

When he placed the order again, this time without McAfee, it was accepted by the system. This was on March 21st and expected delivery date was April 3rd. Unfortunately, shipping took longer than expected and I received my M6800 on April 9th.
