    Hi Guys

Does anyone here know the Model# of the display screens that comes with the Dell M6800 Workstions?

    FHD 17.3" Multi-Touch and FHD 17.3" Non Multi-Touch

I know you can get the model # if you use Hwinfo32/64bit software.

    Thanks,
    Jason

In the first place, I configured my workstation with the 4930MX CPU (5% more performance compared to the 4900MQ), Now, with 4800qm we taking about 10% less performance and 15% if I will upgrade later to 4940MX :)
So I think I will go with the 4900MQ, so I won't regret later.

Thank you so much for the reply, and for the Blu-ray advice, I will check Ebay.

I don't know specific model numbers, but I know you can get either an AUO panel, an LG panel, or a ChiMei(sp?) panel in them. All three are pretty good, with the AUO generally being seen as the best, and the LG probably second best, though the ChiMei panel also has a better contrast ratio according to notebook review, assuming you don't get one of the ones that has yellowish tint to it.

I believe the AUO screen is B173HW01, you can find it for sale at laptopscreen.com if you are looking to upgrade yourself.

Just make sure that you get one with license or software that allows you to play Blu-Ray movies that are licensed. Otherwise you may have to purchase software like cyberlink to play them.

I believe the screens are the standard b173hw02 series screens. They are not bad, but benefit from calibration like most screens, and I believe they respond well to calibration.

The problem is that the only 90% NTSC glossy screen the, b173hw01 v4, is discontinued (01 is the older series), and whatever stock is left is generally the ones with stuck/dead pixels.
For the M6800, the only option is 72% NTSC with either matte or glossy (get glossy for touch screen). Dell for now guarantees no dead pixels which is a plus.
There is currently no higher NTSC in 17.3" screen at the moment, but that may change, as Xotic lists a new 17.3" clevo with 90% NTSC Glossy Screen due in March, NP 9570

"But I also would like to see the specs from a Touch screen owner, and whether the screen is a true digitizer or not".
I checked with Dell Technical and they do say that the screen is capacitive only, not a digitizer.

    Thanks!

The Bamboo Stylus solo from Wacom says: "It is Compatible with devices using capacitive touch screen technology", So I think this is the best stylus for M6800 and according to Spring1898 it should work fine without scratching the screen.

Before you buy it, though, check to make sure that the touch screen has "palm" technology to block the input from the hand on the screen while writing.
Otherwise you may be stuck with "free handing" over the screen.

    Hi Guys

So is the standard screen in the m6800 model#b173hw02 series screens.

Also if you guys had a choice which screen would you go with the regular FHD 17'3" or the Multi-Touch Screen (I don't really like glossy or reflective screens where you can see yourself in them. Matte is usually my preference. The issue I'm having with deciding which way to go is some are saying that the 17.3" non touch and touch are the same screen and they are both matte and others say that the touch screen is glossy. Does anybody know which is the right answer.

I was told by a dell tech that the screen could be used with a stylus pen, but now I see that some says the screen is capacitive only meaning it can only be used by your fingers. Does anybody know which is the right answer.

I have these two options below that I spec'd out and the screen is stopping me from deciding which way to go. Depending on which screen you choose changes your configuration because the Dell 1601 wigig card is the only one that is compatible with the touch screen configuration.

You can use any capacitive touch-screen with special styli. They make all sorts of them for ipads and the like, and they would work on this as well.

The touch screen is glass, so there is going to be additional reflection when compared to the matte screen. I went with the matte screen on mine because I didn't think the touchscreen would be particularly useful for me, and I didn't think it justified the price premium over the matte panel. It does have an anti-glare coating on it, which does help some with glare, but if glare is an issue for you, the matte screen really may be your better bet.

    Thanks for the reply

Okay but this wouldn't be the same as say using a Wacom tablet would it?

See I have a bit of a situation. I just posted it in the M6700 owner thread here. http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...1-dell-precision-m6700-owners-thread-255.html
basically I've been having many issues with my M6700 to the point it won't even come on anymore. Dell has kindly agreed to either fix the machine or build me a new M6800. The screen is what is stopping me from making my decision because
I have a IPS screen in my M6700 and I love it, but it's not an option anymore unfortunately.

How do you like the non - touch screen in the M6800? Does it even compare to the IPS Screen in the M6700?

If I used the default settings in the premier color application for the IPS screen is that equivalent to the not touch screen that is in the M6800? I found any other profile like sRGB or Full caused a lot of banding in gradients and stuff so I just used the default settings.

    Thanks,
    Jason
