Not much difference, guess overclocking is a no go for me (plus my gpu is already running hotter than normal). Called up dell regarding the temps and I was told that these are just fine, exceeding them would be a problem. According to me they are still on the higher side.

Will run the benchmarks again with more ram when I get my hands on HyperX modules (Which might take a while as the person who supplies them is out of town for a week or two), that should close the diff. in the performance a bit. Meanwhile anyone with a firepro M8900 and an SSD wanna do the benchmarks?

HWinfo does read the M8900 as blackcomb 6970 XT.

Guess that's not the answer to your question. If you are asking that 8900M can behave as 6970 or officially recognized as one using different driver, there was someone earlier who did that. Don't know which drivers he was using though.

    Hey Guys,
So my M6400 Covet is being replaced with an M6600 tomorrow. FedEX shows it being delivered tomorrow anyway. I have the BOM which I have pasted below and have a couple of questions.

    1. The Display on my Covet is the RGBLED E2E display at 1920 X 1200. The new one is not. It is listed as the anti glare display. Is the other display with the multitouch a glossy finish?

    2. I run dual OCZ Vertex III drives in RAID-0 presently. Would asking for the 128GB SSD Minicard as a concession for the screen being of lower spec be reasonable do you think?

    3. Is there anything in the BOM I could ask to be upgraded as a concession? I think I have pretty much the higest spec of everything but the HDD which I have replaced with SSD's anyway. I suppose I could ask for more memory, but I am gonna replace it with after market memory anyway. If they will give me 32GB which is a $6500 upgrade I think I would jump on it. But otherwise, i don't see myself as needing Dell memory as a concession.

    Thanks!!!

Don't know about the Sony you have mentioned there. However, I ordered mine with the Tray load DVD-RW and bought a UJ-242 off of E-Bay. I got some seller out of Texas. It was $250.

Anyway. If fits and works just fine. It's a 9.5mm drive. Installing the new optical drive was EASY. One screw, and plug and play.

A word of caution. While the seller I bought from did work with me, the first UJ-242 he shipped would not eject. The replacment works fine though.

I, like you, saved a ton by going that route.

Yes my table summarizing read/write showed Dell stock 128GB mSSD with Dell stock 2 x 750GB RAID 0 was wicked fast with 1.5TB storage.

I use to live on the edge with my M6400 2 x 500GB RAID 0 untill I had one *&^% headache when the RAID O was corrupted.

So I want safety first then speed. There is nothing like the security of traveling with RAID 1 knowing that if one HD has a problem you're safe.

    How is yours setup?
    mSSD boot/OS with RAID 0 or 1?

I can see mSSD boot/OS with RAID 0 is slightly safer then RAID 0 alone.

But mSSD boot/OS with RAID 1 is less safe then RAID 1 alone.

Is there a way to have mSSD boot/OS also imaged or backed up on the RAID 1 such that if there is a glitch with the mSSD one can boot off the RAID 1 and repair the mSSD?

But BIOS will show thermal events so there could be evidence ... and since they've built the M6600 to be well within thermal limits ...
