Oh no, I mean the cable that connects to the eGPU adapter for communication. I know that it has limitations as far as throughput for 21:9 but if it has no part in the process of sending a signal to the monitor then I am not concerned.

Just want to make sure I get 60 FPS in 2560x1080

No that "HDMI-express card" is only used to extend PCIe connection from notebook to eGPU, think of it as an extension cord and ignore that it has HDMI on one side :)

Resolution support will depend on GPU used in your eGPU system and performance will depend on both CPU and eGPU, if you take your time and look at my 2nd article you will see how much performance GTX 980 looses in eGPU setup. Top GPU i would use in that scenario is something like r9 285/280/270x or equivalent nVidia. In your case I would suggest going with AMD since your machine already has AMD card and regardles of which GPU you buy for eGPU you will have to do both DSDT override and compaction with DIY eGPU setup.

Hey everyone, I have an M6600 with a Quadro 3000m. for the GPU upgrade, does it have to be Dell/Alienware branded? Would a card from a Toshiba laptop work?

For ~$150 it doesn't look like much is out there, especially if I need to buy the bracket if I switch to AMD.

Which GPU you are looking at? Some clevo works, MSI is less so(may need flash), most HP works.

The GPU I am looking at is a GTX 670M V000280680 (from a Toshiba laptop apparently).

You so you know - Quadro 4000M is pretty much the same card, just with lower clocks - which can be changed by a simple MSI afterburner slider moving :)

I'll be selling my FirePro M6100 within a week, its 3 months old card from my M6600. I will be making both eBay add and place an add here in the marketplace.

Unless you getting it for a good price (like below $100), don't bother with 670m, old and weak by today's standard.

Be patient and you can find m6100 sub 200.

    How about a 6990m?

When going from Nvidia --> AMD do I still need a new bracket?

Is there a list of GPUs that do/don't work in the M6600? Has anyone tried an R9 in this laptop? Are there any R9 MXM cards available? What happens when you try a Nvidia 7xx/8xx?
