Comparing to AMD it seems excellent - I know - but 680m is generally a cold card so, I still expect it to go lower. This is one of the reasons why I wanted 680m in my M6600.

I recently lost ability to use "Duplicate desktop" when using 2nd monitor/projector connected via HDMI - i was using it for 4 weeks now (since last reinstal), and last night after a series of windows updates - not an option anymore i mean i can select it but i just get extended desktop. Anyone knows which update screwed things up?

I know many people complained its due to bad system design but since i was using it for quite some time now i was hoping some1 could help me out.

Hello, I have a question about upgrading the memory on a quad-core M6600. My apologies in advance if this is discussed elsewhere in this thread but I did a Google check and didn't see this issue addressed.
    This link:http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/04/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&docid=469331"
says that the allowable memory configuration for a quad core M6600 with 1600 MHz RAM is 4 DIMM with 4 GB each for 16 GB configuration. My current configuration is 8 GB (1600 MHz) with 4 DIMM (in the bottom chart, the next to last configuration).
Is it possible to replace the two RAM modules accessed by removing the bottom cover with two 8GB 1600 MHz DIMM, the result being 20 GB (two 4GB DIMM under the keyboard and two 8GB DIMM in the bottom of the laptop – all DIMM would be 1600 MHz)? Or are the listed configurations the only ones possible? I notice that Dell states in their verbiage that 32GB is possible but do not specifically state it is limited to the 1333 MHz DIMM, although the chart only shows 16GB max for the 1600 MHz DIMM.
My bottom line is that I would prefer not to have to mess with the RAM under the keyboard – I’ve removed the keyboard before and it’s not onerous but not a whole lot of fun either. Is it necessary that all DIMM be the same size or can sizes be mixed? I assume it is not possible to mix 1600 MHz DIMM with 1333 MHz DIMM.
    Thanks!

    2 4GB DIMMs plus 2 8GB DIMMs would make 24GB, not 20.

I believe it should work but am not sure.

As long as the timing matches there shouldn't be any problems.

My goof, should have been 2 2GB DIMM. Total would still be 20GB.

By "timing" you mean 1600 MHz DIMM all the way round (can't mix 1333 and 1600 MHz)? I am seeing a two 8GB DIMM set (total of 16GB) 1600 MHz for sale and advertised for the M6600 so I assume that the two would work in the primary slots. I suppose worst case would be that I would have the two 2GB DIMM not working - I assume if the RAM is incompatible for some reason that the primary RAM would be accessed properly and the secondary RAM simply ignored?

Thanks for the replies! Now to find the best deal on the RAM...

By timing I mean CAS latency, I'm not sure about it though, all I know is that if the specs are similar, it's good.

As for the speed, faster RAM will downclock to the speed of the slowest RAM in system, so if you have a 1333MHz RAM, your 1600MHz RAM will downclock to 1333MHz)

Worst case - system won't boot, Windows blue screening, so you'll know something's wrong.

Well, I thought I would update on my RAM saga.
I purchased two 8GB 1600 MHz DIMM, all specs were same as the existing Samsung 2GB 1600 MHz DIMM (both CL 11, etc.). Well, after installing this RAM, my computer would not even boot up to the Dell BIOS screen. I put the 2GB (original) DIMM back in and everything was fine. The 8GB DIMM are going back to the supplier.
Today I went out to Micro Center and purchased two 4GB 1600 MHz DIMM, again all specs same as the existing Samsung 2GB 1600 MHz DIMM, both CL 11, etc. This was their "house brand" memory, nothing special. I put these modules in the primary memory slots in place of the 2GB DIMM, and this time the computer came up perfectly to the BIOS screen and then came up to a screen saying "your computer's memory has changed" but that was all good. I let the computer boot up and checked, sure enough it shows 12 GB memory. Yay!
For reference, my M6600 has an Intel i7-2860QM, which is a quad-core CPU at 2.50 GHZ per core. Apparently Dell's chart is correct, the most memory any slot can accept in this computer is 4GB. 8GB DIMM appear not to work.
I will see what, if any, increase in performance this gives me. I'm not expecting a whole lot from an extra 4GB but I feel the additional capacity will provide some advantage.

So far mine with i7-XM the 8GB 1600Mhz CL10 DIMM working smoothly in pairs, priority Slot 1 & 2 under the keyboard than only followed by Slot 3 & 4 at the back. The extras help a lot when doing rendering & 3D graphic job of mine

Hello! I recently bought a Precision m6600 and its a great computer. I got it for a cheap price ($470 a good price?) as the laptop was in a rough condition cosmetically. I tried running Crysis 3 but it would artefact and close with that common cry engine error and would also artefact on Furmark. I opened the laptop and re-pasted the GPU and CPU with Arctic Cooling MX3 and cleaned the heatsinks as well as the fans. The previous owner probably tried as well as the heat-sink screws were stripped. After the paste job I fired up Crysis 3 and played it for 30-40 mins in a 27-29'C room. The temps according to Hwinfo were:
Core - 81C Memory 83 and Shader 91C. After Crysis 3 I fired up Metro LL and the temps were similar. It ran those two games without any hiccups but it will artefact in Furmark sadly. Should I be worried? Are my load temps normal? Idle temps 55 avg for all three cores. Summer is settling in and the room temperature is about 27-28 with a ceiling fan at full. Specs of the system are : i7 2720qm, 4gb Ram, 250gb HDD, 2GB M8900 900P screen.
