If you have an older version of DDPA, uninstall it first (all [if separate] components, order: Application, Middleware, Driver).

    You need this order:

    1. Install this First:
    Dell Data Protection Access 2.3.3 {A09} (X1C1N), All-in-one: Driver, Middleware, Application, DDPA_Setup_X1C1N_A09_64bits_ZPE.exe
    Reboot

    2. Then install the firmware update (run ushupgrade.exe [AS Administrator] in an Administrator Account):
Dell ControlVault Firmware Update {A29} (TJ9CD), DDPA 2.3.3 {A09} requires this update to function and DDPA must be installed to update, CV_Setup_TJ9CD_A29_ZPE.exe
    Reboot

EDIT: Note I made a couple edits above after posting.

    Hi rcb.to.ca,

    Thanks for your replying.

Before posting, I have done procedure like yours lots of times.

I want to confirm it is HW/SW issue, found the diagnosis under DOS, and want to know is it useful for checking HW.

Is there anybody who could run the ushdiag.exe to help me classify the issue?

I'll give it a run in the morning on the other machine (it still has the firmware SW on it from previous upgrade) and let you know. That system isn't available to me at the moment.

If there is anything particular in the method please post the exact way you need it ran so that I don't have to trudge through the readme.txt to figure it out.

If I don't hear back I'll use the switches you mentioned to the best of my ability using the readme.txt.

    ---------------------------------

    Edit:

You're aware that you said that the firmware upgraded which means that it recognized the Control Vault. If you do not have installed DDPA (A09),
or instead stand-alone CV (A11) CV: RDYG9, the CV will not be recognized and FW (A29) upgrade can't occur which leaves FPR inoperable.

I'll take your word for it that you're using the correct procedure for upgrading. In the meantime, before I get to the test, you should reset DDPA if installed using its built-in function or otherwise clear the CV if available and while you're at it reset the BIOS, clear the TPM, and discharge the system by removing the battery and power supply then holding the power button down for > 1 minute (you'd be surprised). If still no change then check the cables to the FPR.

I'll still run the test - out of curiosity.

    Hi rcb.to.ca,
I am glad to explain more details.

    1. Make a usb bootable pendrive by using unetbootin. unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
choose to install freedos 1.0 and copy all USH firmware directories to the pendrive.

Note: Make sure have at least one partition & format the USB pendrive or you can not change drive by "C:"
    to use the FW tools.

    2. reboot, press F12 to choose USB as boot device, choose default, then last item(no special function) in menu

    3. change drive to C drive, keyin "C:".

    4. change to FW folder, keyin "cd TJ9CD\DOS"
list all file & directory, keyin "dir"

    5. TPM self-test
    ushdiag

    6. Display USB status
    ushdiag -u -stat

    7. initiate diagnostic tests
    ushdiag -u -dt 3f

Note: to pass smartcard & RFID (contactless smartcard) items, you need real cards

    8. initiate extensive diagnostic test
    ushdiag -u -dte 1
    ushdiag -u -dte 2
    ushdiag -u -dte 3 1
    ushdiag -u -dte 4
    ushdiag -u -dte 5
    ushdiag -u -dte 6

    9. Other items
    ushdiag /? or ushdiag -h

Note: I am at work, and this option that I am not very confirmed!

    10. Reboot /Poweroff directly

*** My M6600 pass all diagnosis items exception fingerprint relative items.

    Thank you in advance!

    Peter Chen

Well I guess this is going to be an educational adventure - something new for me!

See Palm Rest section describing location of FPR cable: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-prod...bile/precision-m6600_owner's manual_en-us.pdf

    FPR cable is OK.

I run all steps before except discharging the system, and I will try it.

    Thanks!

I re-flash the latest firmware & discharge the M6600, but still have no luck.

Information from device manager & ushdiag.exe has no change.

    Peter,

I'm not going to be able to do this for you. I don't even have an ISO extractor. It will take too much time to get it figured out - maybe someone else is already setup who can help.

I wonder if they replaced the palm rest when swapping the mother board, maybe it is a bad FPR unit. That the firmware can find the CV appears to isolate it down to the FPR hardware in the palm rest.

    Hi rcb.to.ca,

I thank for your kindly help.

If you use the UNetbootin, You don't need any ISO extractor.
You only need to prepare a USB pendrive or a USB cardreader with a SD/MMC card,
select a distribution (we need freedos), and the drive name.
    http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/un...nt/wiki/MiscWikiFiles/unetbootin-windows7.png

I choose the tools for it's a open-source tool, you can review the code, modify for your need, and compile it for your

In order to avoid data loss, I suggest you backup data at usb pendrive/SD/MMC card.

    Let's try again?
