Thanks again Ryan. Much appreciated. (Adding rep)
I just installed Control Point and I was happy to see how small the download was. I suspect they cleaned it up a lot from last year's M6500 version.
It didn't change the inability to adjust the screen brightness and have it actually change as you are adjusting it as it should, but I'm hoping that the recent post from Sunksat will.
Anyway, having these onscreen displays is a huge plus for me so again, I really appreciate it!

This is the driver I downloaded from Dells website 1 or 2 weeks ago after a recent re-install. I had originally downloaded the newest driver from Intels website (newest not always better apparently) and I could NOT change the brightness on the laptop. During boot I could change brightness to my will but as soon as windows loaded the brightness was locked, i.e. changing the slider in power settings did nothing or pressing the fn+brightness keys.
Called Dell which had me install the software that Ryan mentioned, but that still didnt allow me to change brightness.
Though with the OSD software installed, when pressing the brightness keys the visual confirmation popped up, but brightness didnt change -hope this sentence is understandable.
Installed the driver I linked and after a reboot I could change brightness in windows via the function keys and the slider in power management.

Last edit: The driver I linked is the driver for the Intel Integrated Graphics Card (IGP), I have no idea why this driver controls the brightness and neither could Dells support tell me

Any progress on any fan control programs?

Before Windows 7 and on older Mobile Precision models, I liked to keep the recorded temps lower than the Bios settings and I8kfanGUI worked perfectly. It allowed me to set temp thresholds for when the program would set the fans to full speed, and this always worked without any problems. Many users keep older Precision systems alive simply by always running the fans at full speed (of course, the fans could need replacing but that is cheaper and less likely than the motherboard, video card, or other critical components needing replacing in substantial part due to the effects of excessive and/or long-term heat).

So, any decent fan control programs for the M6600 with Windows 7 out there?

Incredibly helpful! Thank you very much for the detailed reply.
Unfortunately the rapid share progress bar hasn't changed from zero - hopefully it will soon and it will download without problem.

    Damn rapidshare!
Ok im uploading the file to my webserver, will post the link when it is done. Let me know when you have the file and I will remove it again.
I have also uploaded the latest Intel Chipset Driver software I also got from dells website after I updated the bios to A07 -saw you mentioning you also needed that. Will edit when done -done!

yes I got my machine this Monday ( 2 days ago). very happy with IPS screen.
I read your entire post. it seems you have installed the OS again, I do not really see any screen brightness issue.

Did you have the same issue before installing OS?

As I have not installed the OS yet, which I am going to try once I have all the drivers in place. Though I have encountered one issue which is Print screen.

I am not able to do Print screen. Tried Alt+P, Ctrl+P and Print screen itself. Did not work.

Can you please let me know all the drivers you installed?

I do not want to install crapy drivers. only the drivers which really require I would prefer to install.

I made a list few days ago. If you have IPS screen, you'll need to install additional driver for it, which can easily be found on dell website.

I need advice on the pros and cons of Quadro 4000M vs AMD FirePro M8900 (I'm not a gamer.)
    1. Quadro 4000M - Optimus to reduce power use while on battery.
    2. 120 hz 3D capabilities?
    3. Future?
    4. etc.?

    Thanks!
