You might want to install the ControlPoint system manager. It has some drivers in the package, and is the one that displays brightness, audio, and backlit keyboard icons on the display when the buttons are pressed.

Leave the other controlpoint software, just install the one I mentioned above.

Thanks for your quick reply Ryan. Have you used Control Point for some time? Is it no longer buggy? I ask this because when I bought my M6500 mid last year the M6500 forum was absolutely lit up with folks saying to absolutely not use DCP because of how bloated and buggy it was.

Do you think that the Dell Control Point will make the brightness work, since now, even moving the slider with the mouse does not make it work?

Also, any comments from you or others about the yellow bangs?

I can't say because I only install the important drivers, no security stuff or anything in addition.

I checked device manager and it seems that I also have a yellow mark on Broadcom USH and the unknown device which I assume is the Free Fall sensor.

They have no impact whatsoever on the laptop as far as I could tell, as I work in the IT department of my school and we never bother to install the drivers(Broadcom USH).

Also, I noticed that when installing controlpoint system manager, it installed some drivers although it was classified under software. So I assume it COULD work, but I'm not 100% certain.

I have the LGD0308. :D I guess mine is older.

Hmm, for me it downloaded fine at the time. I'm not sure if the site is down right now, the site's been up and down for a few days now.

If it doesn't work, I can send you the controlpoint system manager via email if you wish.

Just to add, had the same issue with the FN+Brightness keys, even after installing Dells OSD software. It got it working by installing the Intel IGP driver from Dells website. Their support had no clue as to why it only works with their Intel IGP driver compared to the newest from intels website, anywho, hope you get it working!

Thank you very much for the tip - this gives me hope - but so that I can try this, where did you find this Intel IGP driver?? I am at the M6600 download area for Win 7 x64 and just looked in every category there but I don't see it!

I also have the same LGD0310 (Monitor Name (Manuf): 173WF3 [Dell P/N 4259G]). Am I correct in assuming you just received yours this week as well?

    Does your brightness adjustment work?

Also, does the screen seem to be significantly less bright after a cold boot until it warms up and gets brighter?

While I didn't download every driver on the site, the only one I did have problems downloading because Dell's site was down was the Intel Chipset driver. Was this the one you could not download? There was a link to an FTP site to download this driver in a post submitted sometime in the last few days in this thread. There was also one from many weeks or months ago posted, but that one was for older drivers directly from Intel's site. This one was for the driver that just came out days ago.

Thanks much! I'll try this. Just out of curiosity, do you know what this is a driver for? Was it Dell's support that told you this was your problem? (Please confirm that you did have the exact same problem as me, not being able to adjust the screen brightness.)
