    Hi everybody!

Where can I find out how many external monitors the M6600 supports in which configuration (ATI/Nvidia, IPS/Non-IPS, Dock/No-Dock)?

I'm looking for a laptop that can handle at least two 30" displays (2560x1600) plus the laptop display or two 30" displays and a 24" display (1920x1200; DVI, DisplayPort or HDMI only).

In this thread. Somewhere like hundreds posts ago - unfortunately.
I don't already remember all possible configs so, let's count on someone else to help.
But (I know we dont' start sentence with "but", but ...) I believe that the whole thread is obligatory to every M6600 owner :)

Can't the mSata 128Gb be used as the only drive on the m6600 or m6400?
Dell's configuration web doesn't allow now to select it unless you choose a second drive... I recall it was possible a week ago and I already have the second and third drive... why is it? Could it be that it is not working very well as primary disk?
    Cheers

Correct. You can use the mSata drive as the only drive. I swap my data drives all the time.

If anyone would like to see what I'm talking about with the stutter/buzzing sound playing audio, I made a quick video. The first one had melodic death metal (Solution .45) but I figured it might be easier for most people to differentiate the sound with something a bit cleaner, so I switched to Alice in Chains.

The annoying part is that there doesn't seem to be any sort of pattern to it, as you can see in the video I'm not even doing anything when it happens, just have a remote desktop, Outlook and a browser running...

Any advice would be most welcome, this is driving me nuts!

Ahh, I see, thanks. Not sure how long the M6600 has been out; is there another model coming any time soon do you think, or will they just offer IBridge as a M6600 option in March? They tend to have a new model # w/ the new architecture right?

I think it came out in late April? That's when you could order one, they didn't ship until well into May. The cycle for refreshing the Precision laptop series is usually a little more than a year. I expect to see a new model come out with the Ivy Bridge platform next year, but it probably will be a couple of months after Ivy Bridge is generally available.

The other big thing on the horizon is 28nm GPU's. There is speculation that AMD will ship professional (Firepro) 28nm GPU's in 2011. They are having issues with the process which is leading to low yields so it will likely be the beginning of 2012 before widespread availability. 28nm is a big decrease from 40nm and the power savings and performance increase should be huge. AMD is also switching to a new architecture as well. If they don't have a Firepro option with the IPS soon I might as well wait a few more months...

So the web has to be wrong then... I'll try to see if the salesmen have a different version that allows them to select just the mSSD...
    Dank!
