The touchpad is actually really nice. First ALPS pad that's actually decent. Multitouch gestures rival if not beat the synaptics pads.

The keyboard has grown on me but the flex and feel is not as good as the M6500. It's the non backlit version.

Fan noise is good, but I've got too many work deadlines to benchmark the machine to death.

I've got no idea what the performance boost feature is.

Trying to install reference drivers for the firepro

    WEI:
    CPU: 7.5
    RAM. 7.6
    Both GRAPHICS: 6.0
    HDD: 7.9

To see if i can improve the WEI score.

In the lenovo w520 the HDD scored 7.4 so i'm happy with the SATA Controller.

    VERY easy to open.

    Battery latch, remove battery.

    Two screws (like the M6500)

    Side off whole bottom panel.

    Thanks!

And how about that hard drive bay? Supposed to be tool-less. Is there a latch of some sort?

The DVD drive is not modular. So you have to unscrew it to replace. Correct?

The hard drive bay is supposed to be tool-less, but the latch to open it has a screw in it and you then have 4 screws holding it in place.

I think in fact its only the bay as a whole that's tool-less and there are no screws holding the hard drive in the bay

DVD drive is unscrew as well.

The HDD carrier and the latch have screws in them for shippment and for customers who have security concerns. Once you remove the screws the HDD carrier will stay in the slot without screws. This allows you to quickly remove and swap if you wish.

I noticed you got the slot-load drive. What's the make, model, and height of the drive? Thanks!
