I know you have data on the Lacie, but I wish there was a way to take it back to the config that worked with the M6400. I keep thinking that a config that had worked with the M6400 would work with the M6600. Really wish I could get access to one of those drives.

Holy crap! The M6600 is a lot greener than I thought. Just finished the power adapter section of my M6600 review. While testing I found that if you have Optimus enabled and put the machine into a power saving mode, it only pulls 22 watts of power from the wall. That is with max brightness, surfing the web over wireless. You can get it all the way down the 15 watts.

Quick question. I had thought maybe I could contribute something to the recent eSATA talk, so I went and got an Eagle Consus (Quicka nd real cheap), to see if it would work on eSATA. It contains a single drive, and it works instantly without any problems. (I was real late to this conversation).

Anyway, until I got the M6600, I had never experiemented with eSATA. This dirve that I got requires it to also be plugged into a USB port for power. My question was, is this "normal"? I had thought that eSATA was, like USB powered from the port.

I have a rather old ExpressCard with 2 eSATA ports which I'd like to try and use with my WD drive which is not recognized by the M6600 eSATA port. The cards holds Sil3132 Satalink controller chip, and when I insert it to my older Sony Vaio laptop, the appropriate driver is found and installed immediately. However, my M6600 doesn't even recognize it, not to mention installing drivers..

I've downloaded the drivers (.cat and .inf files), but am reluctant to force install them. Can anyone advise whether it's safe, and if a chance exists at all that my Precision will install the device?

Both Lacie boxes were the same 4 Big Quadra set to RAID 5. The only thing that changed was the hardware connecting to them.

You could contact Lacie and ask them to send you a demo which you'll return. Let them know any resolution you find will be of benifit to both Dell and Lacie.

Does the manufacturer not have Vista or Win 7 drivers that you can download and use their autoinstall?

My Lacie has RAID 5 setup (4 x 1TB) and it works as you correctly describe (shows as single disk) via EC eSata card.

eSata on M6600 does not see it at all, so your M6600 eSata will unlikely work with your external box if your M6400 didn't.
But let us know what you find.

What HD were/are you using that did not work with M6400 eSata port?

PS. Next Friday I will be travelling for 3 weeks so I'll have to 'review' when I get back. I'm currently under the whip getting things completed before I leave.

Does Dell sell something equivalent to LaCie 4big Quadra that they know works via eSata with M6600 internal RAID 0?

Can Dell E6320 BIOS RAID setting be changed to AHCI without having to reinstall and configure a boatload of stuff?

    Thanks.
