I will figure out a way to test it or find the specs.

Either way, the earlier blanket statement that the eSata port does not work is now proven false. It does work. There may be some specific devices that have compatibility issues, but the port itself works. I have shown that it works in a lot of configs.

Quick question, so have you gone into Device Manager and activated the external array there?

But of course it can work - I posted about it working with Dell's own DVD e-media enclosure..

So, the "blanket statements" are not mine :)

I tried, but it didn't show up there... An I guess you mean Disk Management Console, ad not Device Manager?

My old M6400(being replaced by the M6600 next week) has the same issue. The e-sata port doesnt support devices that require port multipliers.

Usually a multi-disk external device that has a single e-sata connector and has the the ability to act as a JBOD device(no raid on the device itself) requires the port multiplier on the host if its in JBOD mode. To the host, it'll show up as multiple indv drives all being connected via this single e-sata connector.

If the external device has a raid setup and that raid is enabled then it'll show as a single disk.

Some external devices will only show disk 1 to the machine in JBOD(just a box of disks) but others wont show at all. It really depends on the external device and how its electronics work.

    Hi
I just bought M6600 with ATI graphics, 8GB RAM (2x4GB), 250GB HDD and i7-2620QM CPU. I started to tunning my laptop. First I replaced original HDD with to two new Seagate XT 500GB running at RAID. No problem at all.

I also want to extend memory to 16GB (4 x 4GB). But I have problem here - when I'm putting memory modules to Slot C and Slot D my computer wan't boot. After pressing power-on laptop is powering on (disks are sliding etc) but display is not powering up. All 4 DIMM's are 4GB 1333MHz, all the same. Any suggestion ?

2nd eSata cable does not fix problem. I didn't think it was a cable problem.
Internal Win7 64-bit RAID0 M6600 and eSata port does not see anything.
Using EC eSata card no problems at all.

Bokeh, I really appreciate your efforts and certainly your results show that eSata port works with internal RAID O and your external HD connected via M6600 eSata.

You may have noticed that I buy a lot from Dell and that speaks for itself as to my opinion when there are so many other options.

Going into RAID BIOS via Ctrl I at boot up does not show external Lacie. In fact nothing (IRST, Device Manager, etc.) shows external Lacie box is present. Whereas inserting EC eSata card is smooth and everything works fine.

Still open to suggestions as to what I can do my end to get internal RAID 0 recognizing external HD via M6600 eSata port.

Thanks for everyone's input. I have meetings for the next couple of hours.

Also don't see the option to activate External Array in Disk Management Console. See attached screen shot.

Let me know suggestions on what to try. Thanks.

PS. What is the OEM partition for?
