Ok, I've had this laptop for about a year and a half now and I've never had any problems with it...until now. It suddenly refuses to start up, no display, nothing.

It worked fine the day before and I shut it down normally from the os.

I'm a gamer, it's never overheated, always checked my temps and cleaned my vents (m8900 78-80c and i5 2540 70-75c).

It came with 8gb ram, tried both 4gb sticks separately and still nothing. With and without battery, nothing. The only clue I have is this, when the laptop was working fine, as in it being off and I plug in the charger with a fully charged battery, the battery led would blink once or twice then go off, now, I have a solid battery light when I plug in my charger and I assume that my battery is fully charged since it was the night before. I never leave the machine off with the charger plugged in anyway.

I haven't contacted dell as yet since I wanted to ask here first. I do have next day business warranty with about 400 days left however I don't know what good that will do me since I'm in the Caribbean.

Anyone else ever experience this? Thanks

    try power reset

    1. remove charger + battery and hold power button for 15+sec

    2. remove the charger + battery + cmos battery and hold power button.

Tried it, it worked, laptop started, ran bios diagnostics, everything checked out fine, booted into windows, ran for about 30 mins then I shut down to make sure one more time. Now it refuses to come on once more. Could my power button be the problem?

Does it even blink for one bit? any of the light?

I have had times when I disassembled the machine and tried to turn on in parts and it refuse to boot probably due to some self check, but the lights did blinked.

The keyboard come off easy if you want to check the connections quickly (should be visible), else you will have to take the palm rest out~

Yes. When I plug in the charger the battery light blinks once now and doesn't stay on, as is the norm, but that's it.when the power button is pressed, nothing happens whatsoever.

Never had a reason to take apart this laptop so I can't blame myself this time ;) however, I've never really seen a power button stop working on a laptop either. I guess I'll have to open it up and check but I don't know what I would be looking for specifically.

What if you do the power reset and try to use it (reboot) without the battery?

Tried it, still nothing. This morning i removed the keyboard and it did power on, then i shut it off again and we're back to square one, im guessing its either the motherboard or power button at this point, just wish i had an alternate way to turn it on to find out.

At this point, just get dell support to replace a motherboard. and hopefully it should work.
