Interesting perhaps you got a defective one. Well I know for sure my OEM Xtreme Gamer card is better then the external I have atm, better then the external but atm I am stuck with a laptop.

Oh btw some motherboards for odd effin reasons do not work well with teh Creative 5.1, I noticed it when I went from my Gateway M6862 to my E6500, the sound quality difference was noticeable.

Love the M4600, but I am wondering if I can put 2 drives inside, one SSD+HHD.

There are options for a mini SSD + HD + optical drives on the M4500, I doubt they would remove that.

Agreed. Headphone out on the M6500 into headphones or headphone amp is really not bad. Sennheiser HD600/Shure e3c/Kilpsch s4/Monster Turbines all sounded fine and all present their own challenges to the headphone out. I still use the Digital out on the dock to a DAC / Headphone amp.

On the speakers, I agree too. They are not replacements for good desktop speakers, but they do a great job with Skype and presentations. Much better imho than the E6500/E6510. Light years ahead of the E64x0. Great speakers for business users.

If you want better for movies, music, and games - go for one of the laptops built for those purposes.

so the only thing that M6600 has now over the new XPS 17 is the second HDD.. (as far as i can see)
Because the M6500 was the only really interesting laptop because of the 16:10 screen, but now we also loose that on a high end business laptop.. Its really horrible this trend..

But i now have pretty much give up hope that i will ever replace my current Vostro 1700 with a 16:10 screen. So then the big price of a M6600 doesn't seem to be justified to me

That plus option for 32gb of ram, RAID options, professional workstation graphics cards (optimized for professional productivity software), next business day 3 yr warranty standard, USA Workstation support, Durable chasis with an elegant industrial design, ISV Certification... For some professionals getting an XPS 17 is unthinkable because of the inefficiency in the graphics card, as well as risk of running a specific software for example statistics software and find out your hard ware is not compatible.

I had an original Vostro 1500. Does anyone else think that the Vostro quality has went down? My Vostro 1500 was a battletank in build quality, had great speakers, and a very nice bios. I was sad to see how crappy the bios had become in the newer models as well as the speakers.

There is always the option of a small external USB number pad. Shouldn't be too expensive.
