Probably the same screen as the one we had in W510 (95% gamut, multi-touch, glossy, etc)

Nice. I can ask my Dell work contacts when this one will be released since it's a Precision.

Well I would imagine lots of MBP 17" users would work with Photoshop and iMovie or similar programs, since it's powerful machine. These software surely puts some strain to laptop. But I can really argue, since I haven't tried it myself. Machine @Apple store did feel cool (i mean cold) though.

Photoshop generally doesn't use the CPU at full capacity for long periods of time unless your doing some really high end stuff. Many of the people in this forum, myself included, run their quad core precisions at 100% CPU for hours at a time and they have no problem dissipating the heat while staying reasonably cool to the touch. The case of the last gen MBP will become hot enough to burn you in this scenario. I haven't played with one of the brand new ones, but I doubt anything has changed.

The MBP at the store was idling, of course it was cool... Saying the MBP's cooling is inadequate is being very nice. See here: Core i7-equipped MacBook Pro CPU hits 100 degrees Celsius (updated) -- Engadget

Please, do us all a favor and ask you Dell work contacts if there's any truth to the IPS panel option.

for me it is noticeable, why? i am using Eclipse (IDE) for 90% of my time i am behind the laptop. And that 120 pixels is almost a full view inside the eclipse (so lets say the problems view or console view)
I need those views, so the end result will be that i have a much small text area to type in.
Also all the internet pages, pdfs that you read you name it it all takes more scrolling (10% more..)

People should really stop always telling me to go to an external monitor. I have a LAPTOP i want to use it as a LAPTOP... If going to an external monitor then why on earth buy a laptop??? Then i could buy a desktop just fine...
I am use my laptop on more then 1 place.. At home at some days in the week, at work, and on other places where i sometimes have to go.. So should i have a external monitor on all those places? Or bring the monitor with my all the time??

I am fine with ATI or any dedicated gpu (the lowest of the lowest would be fine with me). If i could buy a 17" high end SB laptop but with no dedicated GPU that would be fine. I don't need a dedicated GPU, SB GPU would be fine.

How is it that less powerfull? It has the same CPU that i would be getting in my M6600 if i would buy that one.
GPU is of no concern its the last check on my list (if it is even on the list)
    I do need the 120pixels * 1920 = 10% of the screen..

what i always hear is that the MBP has great battery life.. But i guess this is only if you run OSX itself. And i am not planning on doing that.. So that part is currently holding me back, how good is the Windows 7 support.. Does it run correctly, can it switch of ATI GPU for example when i don't need it?

So it only has the workstation class gpu extra that i don't need.
And also the screen quality i don't care that much about, even my current Vostro 1700 of 4 years ago has a fine enough screen for me.

i have my facts straight... I am comparing what i need against a M6600 and what one of the other brings for me...
Or i should say for us (all my coworkers and most of my inner circle friends) all of those don't really need that workstation like graphics, most of them don't play games, they all use it for heavy programming and testing.
But currently there is just not really a laptop for that... Yes maybe just one: MBP. But that one is also as expensive as the M6600..

Does anyone have an idea of the base price of these machines as well as any info on a base configuration?

You'll have to excuse my ignorance as I've never paid attention to professional laptops...but, the price of the M4500 right now on dell.com is not reduced due to the imminent release of the M4600?

I guess the reason I ask is because Lenovo always cuts the prices on their previous generation models prior to releasing the new models, and the discounts they offer are usually rather large!
