IIRC, it will only work with dells DDPE hardware encryption/decryption card.

    Found this link: http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/shared-content/data-sheets/en/Documents/DDP_Hardware_Crypto_Accelerator.pdf

While it doesn't specifically mention the M4800, I'm willing to bet the same applies. Additionally, I found this image of an E7440 http://www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/Notebooks/Dell/Latitude_E7440/27_unten3.jpg
The image shows a slot labeled "MSATA WAN PP", which makes me think that the card might be using standard PCIe (as the above article indicates). If this is the case, that would mean it should be usable for half height cards (for USB, probably not MSATA)

I had another Dell (Inspiron mini 1012) where this was an issue. The cause turned out to be a loose cable connection to the motherboard. Have you (or Dell tech) tried to ensure the keyboard connection is good?

Of course, if you started having the issue after it was working fine, then this might not be an issue, but I would check it any way.

Thanks chemware. I worked with Ramon at Dell and he assured me the M4800 was the right machine for me.

The one I bought comes with 256gb SSD and no other drive for backup.

So, my question is, what external drive type and size do M4800 users recommend to use only as backup?
Also, what external drive type and size to use as an additional current file storage?

Or, is there an easier way to do backup? and an easier way to have plenty of access to personal files?

I am only half-literate in computers, so thanks for any help.

I put my own SSD in after ordering with a 750 GB HDD. I later bought a caddy to replace the optical drive. This is pretty simple to do - I don't think you would have any trouble, it's basically just a few screws.

The HDD it shipped with was a WD black - so far I'm pretty happy with it. It's pretty quiet - I only hear a slight click when it parks the head due to inactivity.

Only came about after I updated to the latest BIOS.

Is it safe to revert to the previous version without bricking my machine?

Should be fine. I was able to roll back to one of the earlier ones with no problems.

Got a decent deal on a M4800 w/ M5100. The only problem is that it comes with the 768 resolution screen. I was wondering, because it'll be arriving soon, would I be able to replace the WXGA panel for the WUXGA or the WQXGA+ panels?
