Another question to the owners, is it really that heavy? Is it comparable to a 15 inch non-retina macbook pro?

I don't remember how a 3 kg machine feels, but I don't think 3 kg is that heavy for a 15 inch workstation. What are your opinions?

    Regards

I've never had a Mac, so I can't really compare it to that. I would say its on the heavy side of the sweet spot, but not by much. It's definitely not light, but a decent battery and a very sturdy frame are what you get instead.

There's a noticeable difference in weight between the M4800 and a non-retina macbook pro. However, even the non-retina macbook pro wasn't that light. I find the weight of the M4800 to be manageable for most people.

Even my girlfriend's Alienware M14x, which is a 14" laptop, is heavier than my M4800.

Are you able to use Dell Data Protection with a smart card? If I try to install it I can only choose "Enterprise Edition"..

Speaking of Dell Data Protection. How can I update the controlvault firmware? It keeps asking me for the controlvault admin password, but I never set one. Is there a default password? There's no software either, like there was on older Precisions, where I could change the admin password in Windows.

You have to use the password of your Windows account. About the software, you can install "Dell Data Protection Encryption": it seems a software for managing passwords and Windows logins with the smartcard/fingerprint too. But I don't know how to use.. It seems I have to choose a server to store passwords..

Thanks! That seemed to have worked! Just installed the Dell Data protection security tools too.

Thanks a lot! Do you know where I can buy a smart-card compatible with the reader?

I had both, and I will say it is quite noticeably heavier, probably because I carried it in a backpack and 5-5.5lbs is what I would say is generally the comfortable upper bound for back carry (around MAY weight). It is definitely doable. However, I will say the most annoying part is the size; you will find its thickness inhibits the other things you put in the bag and it's length may make it too large to put in some 15.6" bags.
