    Ok, thank you.
Will try to get it from the dealer for a pre-configured machine.

Come on. If you ever log into your BIOS or have set up a machine password, you see your service tag right up. (It is listed within the BIOS, too.)

Yes, it's rather easy got the info where to find it on Dell site.
I don't have a M4800 machine yet but want to trigger an order and would prefer the model comes with IPS/EDP.
    Thanks for your help.

Figured it out. If you want to use the eraserhead and keys at the same time, just kill the "
apmsgfwd.exe" process in Task Manager. No need to kill the other Alps processes. This way, you still have gestures and scrolling working fine.

I see. Sorry. I wonder if a dealer is going to tell you a service tag beforehand. It’s a code only the product owner should know. But if you can find someone else who bought the same value code pre-config, the machines should be of identical make-up, I believe.

Guys, I'm looking for a workstation and I see the M4800 can be had for a good price off ebay, but then I read all the horrible stories aobut faulty MB's and other issues. Is it really that bad? I hope I will be able to transfer my warranty as well...
What can I expect in terms of battery life/heat/noise and how do you like your +Qhd displays - it seems a bit of an overkill to me...

I'm happy with mine, it's been very solid. Battery life suffers mainly from the lack of Optimus rather than the high resolution screen drawing more energy, but I'm almost always near power anyway.

To get some perspective: According to this report (http://www.jonpeddie.com/publications/workstation_report/), which I cannot access in full, there is about a quarter million portable workstations shipped per quarter, and Dell commands about a third of that market. I suggest you weigh the bad stories you can find against this backdrop.

    Hello, fellow m4800 QHD+ owners.. I got a problem with my display! :( (??)

It's very unusual that I use forums, but this issue I have with the screen/panel on this new m4800 QHD+ (3840x2160, Sharp LQ156D1, SHP1430) machine is mind-boggling and sad for me. I'd really like to know if someone else has this issue with their screen, if it's like this on all batches or if I got a bad version.

    So heres my issue:

The screen has a really strange background light and viewing angle.

If my head is positioned at the exact centre of the screen and about 40 cm from face to screen, and with the screen tilted to the same angle as my face:

The right side of the screen is much more darker than the left, the left has a splendid brightness while right is darkened, and getting more dark as closer to the right it gets. It's like a gradient is over the whole screen .

When I move my head like ,5-1 decimeter to the left, the screen is much more evenly bright on both right and left side and it is much better weighted.

I have owned over 10 laptops in my life and seen far more, and ive _never_ experienced this kind of gradient in brightness, almost like the only background lights is placed on the left side of the screen (as it fades out from left to right).

Im well aware that this kind of IGZO screen has a narrow view angle, but this seems really akward. Shouldnt the display show same amount of brightness on left and right side if you have your head positioned at the exact centre and at a normal distance from the screen?

    Anyone else experiencing this??

Ps. if I stand like 1-2 metres from the screen, the gradient is much less visible, but id have to extend my arms with some metre of android exoskeleton stuff to get that workings to fit :)

    Thanks in advance good people!
    // Magnus
