I don't know the specific. But when I get my M4800, I find a very obvious issue. The yellow light leak from top edge of the screen.
When I report this problem to dell, they said that they are able to help me to replace the screen. However, I don't think it's a good
idea, because it's a new machine. So, I just return it.

And I find some other problems of M4800:
    1. I order an IGZO 4k screen, it has a good color, but the screen is really yellow which compared with my macbook.
    2. When I use dell software to update my driver, the computer screen will turn black. No matter how you reinstall
the system, the screen will turn black within 30 minutes. Therefore, I use a lot of time to find the problem, and I
find the real problem is dell update my Nvidia driver to an old one which issued in 2013. Finally, I download the latest
Nvidia driver on Dell website and installed it at the first start system. It won't turn black screen.
    3. When I use screw to fix my Msata drivc, the screw groove split and I can't fix my Msata. Luckily, I find there are
two wire which used for wwan card can help me fix the msata.

Although I meet some problems with M4800, but other parts of the M4800 are very solid. Additionally, I have to say
the dell support is really high efficiency. I just use threedays to return it and take my money back. They have very good
    service for customers.

When I get my money back, I decide to buy a 17.3 workstation. I choose Zbook 17 this time because M6800 don't
equip IPS RGB screen. So, I place an order in 5.27. Compared to dell, I have suffered a disaster in hp customer service.
When I place order, the order status show "We are unable to process your order, please contact....". Now, the nightmare
was start. I called them almost 10 times until phone service close. But I didn't get any idea about problems, I just heard
" This is belong to our business department..." , then they transferred my phone again and again. Finally, today, they transferred
me to a supervisor(maybe), he told me that is just normal status, and we can't do anything right now. The status will
change until next Monday. Ok, I give up. But when I finish this call, my order status have changed. It is sounds really
    funny.

So, dell product which I receive probably have some problems, but I didn't get a bad shopping experience. I will buy
dell's product in the future. But hp, I just exhausted.

Can someone provide me good Information on the GPU overclocking of the Dell M4800, please? I have an K2100M inside aswell and I also applied GELID GC-EXTREME thermal paste. The GPU is also really cool in my laptop and I think it would work well with a bit higher clocks than 666 mhz. How can I overclock the GPU?
    thanks!

I received my new Precision M4800 with FirePro M5100 and I have quite an annoying problem:

When I have switchable graphics enabled, the laptop sometimes uses the Intel HD Graphics for 3D games and applications. Therefore I disabled switchable graphics in BIOS but now Windows 7 is extremely slow on login screen, 16 bit color mode and with Windows Aero disabled.

It seems that, even while the Intel HD Graphics card is no longer there, the laptop now tries to use unaccelerated graphics instead of my blazing fast FirePro card.
UnInstalling and ReInstalling the AMD FirePro display drivers does not help.

I use NVIDIA Inspector to overclock my K5000M (both memory and core +20% works well for me). I haven't tried it in my K1100M. I'm not sure if all of the lower models support overclocking.

NVIDIA Inspector overclocking settings will get reset if you restart your system, but you can have it create a shortcut on your desktop that can be used to restore your settings easily.

    Hi, epsilon72,

As I pointed out a few posts ago, I've got a latest-gen M4800 with a FHD AUO IPS screen.
I've been fairly happy with it so far but then again I do not have much experience with IPS screens, especially matte ones.

Anyway, on close inspection I do not seem to see any special tinting across the display or part of it.
While on full-screen black background, I can see a bit of lightbleed, especially around a point on the upper-right corner of the display, but I think that is to be expected on this type of monitor... and it is just so soft that it is virtually unnoticeable in any other scenario, so it doesn't bother me at all.
On full-screen white background the screen appears fairly even... Only along the bottom there seems to be a slightly darker strip (say... 3-4mm above the bezel), but it does not appear 'tinted', only as if a little bit of brightness was lost. And again, I think it is a very, very light problem, also unnoticeable in any other use.

I tried to be very picky with my analysis, but it is possible a person with more expertise could make out other details I may have missed.
Still, I do think the monitor is good and honestly it has been a joy to work on this thing.
Hope this input may be helpful.

    Cheers!

Thanks, that's very helpful. I will probably be setting up an RMA for a refund today. I like the machine in a lot of aspects but I'm currently on the fence regarding whether or not I will order another one. I'm thinking about trying out the Thinkpad W541 or W550s too.

As for drivers, my general rule of thumb: if it’s Dell-branded, a Dell driver is the way to go, but if it is a generic hardware, then the official stable driver from the manufacturer is my preferred choice.

The second option applies to both Nvidia and Intel HD (if applicable).

Specifically with Nvidia drivers, I once took time to dissect a Dell’s package and compare it with Nvidia package of the same version. Dell does not apply any customisations worth the name. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever not to go with Nvidia’s ODE drivers, unless you have an issue you want Dell support to help you with.

The way it really works, by my research and inference:

It is primarily Nvidia who tests drivers specifically on and for M4800 (and other supported workstations). Dell seems to have few resources to add any value to the process. All Dell does, as it appears, it that they pick a specific version—once in a long while—and decide that that be the one version they’re going to officially support for some time, until they can afford to test a newer one.

Unless you specifically wish to consult Dell support, there is absolutely no reason to confine oneself to Dell-provided Nvidia drivers. There is no advantage to that but the arguable one that it is the one version Dell can help you with—in the rare case that you actually would want Dell to help you with something.

What is the best place to get a good deal on an m4800? I am looking for one with i7, SSD and qhd 3200x1800 screen. Refurb or gently used is OK. Ebay is usually over $1200. Dellrefurbished.com only has m4600s.

I would recommend buying w/ a standard hard drive and putting your own SSD in, if you're cost-conscious.
