What can cause a laptop to shut down when it's moved? - Spiceworks

Laptop randomly reboots/shuts down when moved

Laptop shuts off when moved - Laptop General Hardware Forum - Laptop - Dell Community

Yeah sounds like a connection breaking somewhere. Slightly loose plug, component, broken wire or board etc. I would check the power plug connections first. Does it shut down with the battery in and out or just in. Maybe the box got bumped or dropped during shipping. Maybe a component just needs to be reseated. Sounds like a tech job anyway.

Tech came out today and replaced motherboard, battery and display cover (there was also a rattling problem, turned out to be a loose part).

Seems OK so far, I'll keep you guys posted. Motherboard was a refurb unit, but everything else was new.

To those fellow-obsessed with little, insignificant details:

Apparently, BIOS A09 has not been the only item pulled back.
A newer version of the MMC/SD card reader driver went with it, and is currently unavailable, while the A03 of the O2Micro package contains an older version.
Just used system restore to get back the newer driver.
If I would revert the restore, this is what would happen:

    ScreenClip.png

The newer package was named “Chipset_Driver_VX3YR_WN_3.0.8.38_A04”.

Better be wary of any update published by Dell on July the 30th. It may not really be an update at all. ;)

Might be of interest: the last line mentioning improvement to keyboard input in (the briefly released and then pulled) BIOS A09 is missing from fixes as listed for BIOS A08.

it was same reason I refreshed my power profiles by re installing system without downloading and applying power profiles given from dell update. after that it stopped for me too. I think sensor is there, but it relates to camera only. and may not work as we think. the power profile works by making dimmer back-light when there are fewer bright objects on screen and or pages on the screen.. apparently that looks to us as if sensor is involved where its not. it saves energy by manipulating brightness vs bitdepth and other IGZO related new way of saving energy making some other to us unknown variations to LCD that save even more energy.
    pure speculation...

    ISSUE ARISING...

I have noticed few annoying things but suspect I may have issue with my mice... since I updated to A08 I have strangely behaving keyboard and my 2 mice just like to disconnect at random. one is by logitech the other was by microsoft (i threw my microsoft mouse 3 years old) but I may have committed to soon to do so, as I suspect this has to do with m4800.

settings checked, usb drivers updated, chipset drivers updated. non of the mainstream update/ repair/ reboot has helped... I suspect its BIOS or my ports. but whats strange is that optical mice (cheapest kind) works without issues... and both wireless and wired laser gets disconnected! be it Logitech or Microsoft.

double letters when typing drive me nuts.... :|

You once mentioned being on A09. Now you’re on A08? You flashed the A08 over the A09? Had A09 been causing you the very same keyboard problems?

As for USB ports, the back port (the USB-2/eSata combo) on my machine sometimes disconnects and reconnects a thumb drive. (Or it used to; I haven’t noticed it recently. Might indeed be related to a specific BIOS version.) I’ve never had any problems with the USB-3 ports. I do use a pretty ordinary Logitech optical mouse connected to one of the ports on the right side.

My apologies. I have brightness settings, not timeout delay settings.

    My mistake.

    M.J.S.,
I have the BIOS A09 installed and the double key issue is gone. Now, the problem is (lets say every 500 keyboard hits) that sometimes the keyboard iterates the given input as long as I hit another key (then the input stops immediatly...). That is also annoying but much better than this double key problem...and as already said, it is rare in comparision with the double key problem....
I also got the keyboard replaced, and in my opinion after the replacement these problems diminished...however, that is highly subjective...:)

to be honest I thought to give it a try thinking it maybe keyboard related so now stuck with A08 :( is there a backdoor to A09 anyone? Correction found A09 over here http://www.dell.com/support/home/do/en/dodhs1/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverid=N98N3

when i type it garbles and multi input causes slight freeze, DELL must stop procrastinating this and FIX it its not subjective its BIOS.
