Does anyone know how to disable the Ambient Light Sensor? My screen randomly dims and then gets super bright, depending on what I'm doing (I think the screen light is reflecting off of my shirt). And yes, I've ensured that the system AC adapter is not being plugged in/unplugged.

Also, my NVIDIA control panel reports that my QHD+ panel is not HDCP capable. Has anyone tried to watch protected content (Blu rays) with this machine?

The 4940MX was just added by Intel's Haswell Refresh. Since it was just added, it was just priced. The price for the 4930MX is probably the same as when it was initially listed a year ago. Since Dell didn't bother to update the price, the new, better option is cheaper than the older slower one.

    Go bureaucracy!

Clearly you do not understand. I'm running firmware A06. On A06, things work as logic says they should. My laptop works normally on a 120W adapter, and clocks down a little but works well on a 90W adapter. On firmware A07 and newer, if ANY AC ADAPTER of 130W or less is connected, the CPU LOCKS at 800MHz and WILL NOT change clock speeds at any time, for any reason, until the <180W adapter is removed. On battery, where the machine can only draw about 90W peak, the CPU runs normally, clocking to 2.7GHz or even farther. Once the "unsupported" AC adapter is connected, the CPU is FORCE-THROTTLED to a very, very, very low speed and locked there, and graphics are similarly locked.

Since firmware A06 and earlier PROVE that the laptop is capable of running without issues on a 120W/130W adapter, this is just plain hostile action by Dell.

I completely agree. It also forces me to stay on BIOS A06

I appreciate a thorough explanation of reasons for keeping A06 I indeed understood much more now! I for one don't have the variety of power supplies to test the theory on practice hence the confussion.

I have noticed that no matter what I do in power settings M4800 "clocks down@ GFX card on battery with A09. but I clearly remember that when I had A06 my battery would be boiling hot and possibly being damaged during use especially when using M4800 on full power with battery. I think dell went easy way by throttling it for masses and few of us like yourself may just stick with older les restricted BIOSes.

I didn't even know the M4800 has an Ambient Light Sensor. It's not in the specs or the manual as far as I'm aware.. Perhaps you have a different problem?

Perhaps. But it does have an Ambient Light Sensor, in Dell's documentation there is reference to it. Also, you can see it - its the small black window to the right of the webcam.
