I haven't found any info about battery life for the m4800...

How has it been for the dozen of you that have this thing? :)

    Thanks

So... Does that mean no one knows because you guys haven't had to recharge yet?

    :)

I have the standard i7/1080p/9-cell battery/etc.. build. I only replaced the SSHD with a SSD.

Given that, so far, I've managed to use it the whole working day (together with my desktop, so not continuously) while web browsing and working on light computational stuff (in Matlab, STATA and Mathematica). So, I'd say that 5 hours (in power saving mode) is a conservative estimate.

Cool.. that's helpful... that's also about twice what I expect out of my m6600 and that's when I'm trying (on the balanced profile at least)...

Sorry for resurrecting an older thread, but does anyone else with a M4800 have any experiences to share?

Review Dell Precision M4800 Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

Scroll down to the battery runtime and you'll see their tests.

Idle (without WLAN, min brightness) 5h 18m
    Surfing with WLAN 3h 30m
    DVD 2h 45m
    Load (maximum brightness) 1h 25m

    That's with the 9-cell battery.

Seen that, and to everyone else that has read the review, Dell says that the M4800 does have Optimus on the QHD+ screen, so I am not sure why Notebook Check's unit had it disabled. That should drop the 19W drain closer to 12-13W theoretically.

I think it has to do with their unit having an old bios (A01). I think A03 was the bios that fixed any optimus issues on the QHD+ display.

I think you are right, would be nice if someone here with a QHD M4800 could confirm though

I can not confirm optimus on QHD+ Display. I run linux on it. Bios is A03, but I can not find any settings in Bios regarding to this.
It is with NVIDIA Quadro K1100M w/2GB GDDR5

    With regards,
    Lado

There is no Optimus with the QHD+ display.

I have been getting roughly four hours pretty consistently without stressing the system too hard. I would expect more like two (or even less) under heavy CPU load.
