Regarding LG Panels on the M4600 and M4700:
    ( M4600 = LG LP156WF1 )
    ( M4700 = LG LP156WFC )

Previously, a M4600 I've used had a LG Philips LP156WF1 and it was great.

Does anyone know if the (possible model) LG LP156WFC for the M4700 (notice a "C" on the end instead of a "1") is any good or comparable to the LG LP156WF1 on the M4600?

Also, if anyone knows, does the M4700 have a Samsung option for the panel? If so, is it the Samsung LTN156HT02-2 ???

    Thanks in advance.

My M4700 just arrived ... finally after 1 month delay (three consecutive delays by DELL).
The label on the box shows "Made in China".
Unboxed .. wth, two shoe prints on the bottom of the laptop, one is certainly a shoe print, the other one also looks like a shoe print although it's somewhat smudged and has a different line pattern.
I've taken pictures and I haven't turned the laptop on yet, cos don't know wth it all could mean.
Has anyone had this (or similar) type of experience/surprises from our Chinese friends?
Any suggestions on what to do?
Any advice would be appreciated, thnx in advance.

Update: DELL have replaced the device.

MikeWeb49, yeah its an AU Optronics panel -the V4 is the 95% Ntsc gamut panel used in the Lenovo W520/30 amongst others, its a lovely panel on the Lenovos and IMHO would suit the M4700 nicely if it fits

My m4700 arrived yesterday, unboxed late tonight to find the keyboard trim not properly put together. UK order, made in China. Will post a pic tomorrow. The left bottom outer edge is elevated and not properly installed. Either that, or they forgot something under it and now the plastic is bent. Shall I try removing and reinstalling the keyboard trim myself following the manual or contact support first? Thanks

    mik379,

Sorry to hear about your experience... It is similar to when I first received mine right out of the box, the keyboard wasn't attached properly. Additionally, there was some odd clear plastic scraps stuck to the side of the unit. I guess they were in a hurry assembling it.

To have shoe prints actually on part of your chassis is absolutely disgraceful. Personally, I would sugest doing a full diagnostics (F12 at Dell Logo screen when you first turn it on, then select Diagnostics) on the machine to see if any of the internal components have problems. Shoe prints could indicate any number of careless activities with the unit... I could only guess. Again, sorry you're going through that.

    tomcec,

As mentioned in my previous post to mik379, My system came with an improperly installed keyboard as well. It was buckled up in the right side closest to the palm rest. After consulting the manual, I ended up putting some pressure on the trim to try to finish the installation job that should have been done at the factory. After a while, I finally got it pressed down properly and it seems fine. I can't guarantee that will work in your case if as you said you are possibily missing other important components..

If that was the only problem I've encountered with this M4700 I would be a happy man. Apparently others (see mik379's previous post) are finding shoe prints on their laptops right out of the box.

Yeah, the keyboard trim on the right sight near the palm rest wasnt properly too, I put some pressure on it and it slot into place it seems. but the left side feels like there's something preventing it from snapping into place.
Edit, just followed the owners manual and it looks ok now.Very flimsy looking plastic piece..

I also received the small business 'Last chance to redeem your welcome gift‏' email today with a 100 uk pound off coupon. I registered for that before the holidays and making the order. This is what it says:

I too was unimpressed with the AU HW02 in my M4700, so I ordered an HW01 from laptopscreen.com -- it arrived today, and took me about 30 minutes to install. Fits perfectly, and it's MUCH nicer than the HW02. Definitely recommend the upgrade -- just be careful with the delicate-looking connector: if you don't have any confidence with hardware, I'd find someone who does to do the swap.

So, with such a machine do we need a surge protector or better an AVRegulator? Is it safe to use only a surge protector?
