I have tried one more time. Even removed the blue foam (which took me almost 20 minutes) below the HDD which was taking 1.0 - 1.5 mm of vertical space. After placing the HDD and closing the caddy it looked a little cambered. Anyway, carefully tightened screws and with some effort i was able to put the caddy in the laptop case. Unfortunately it took me about 3 minutes trying not to damage stickers. After all it was in place but.. it took me even longer trying to get it out. The caddy is a little cambered and there is very little space between its screws and the laptop case, which makes the whole process a real pain in the ..

    Any suggestions in this situation?

Your caddy doesn't seem meant to accommodate a drive larger than 7mm. You'll have to get one designed to hold a larger drive. (Though it sounds like you got the drive to fit in there. If you've got a drive that you're sure is going to be in there reasonably permanently, you might be OK with what you've got.)

The manual that you can download at the Dell support site has instructions for replacing all of the components. Also, I believe an IPS screen in the M4700 requires a different motherboard so swapping one in will require more than just replacing the display.

    Thanks,

    I am thinking about this panel: AUO B156HW01 V4 Overview - Panelook.com

I think it is used in W530 LENOVO

Had the panel replaced today with a different Dell OEM panel... apparently an LG one. I do notice a big difference, however hwinfo64 isn't showing a change in my system. Either way I'm happy.

    Hi,

do you have some official report from the DELL OEM panel replacement? Like the reason, part number, etc.?
Maybe I could use it in my country to persuade DELL to swap it also..

Yes, the AU Optronics panel in the M4700 is complete garbage. The M4600 LG Philips panel was incredibly good on the M4600. Did you come to a resolution on your M4700 ? I would have replied sooner, but just found your post.

    tom_bell07,

Did you buy that Samsung 184HT panel - FHD on your own? Or did Dell tech support send it out and you replaced it yourself?
If you bought it on your own, do you have a link?

Also, any particular tips or suggestions to watch out for when replacing it yourself?

Where was your guys M4700 assembled? China or Mexico (or elsewhere)? (It's on the original cardboard box, or possibly also in the battery compartment)

My M4700 was assembled in China. M4600 was Mexico.
