Hello everybody, this is my first post here. In 10 days I'll be an owner of a Precision m4700.

I'm a bit confused: in the first page of this thread it is suggested to expand memory using sodimm modules. But in the official documentation it is reported that ram modules are of the dimm type. Does the m4700 actually support dimm modules?

    Hi Everyone,
I am planning on getting a M4700 very soon but I have some questions before that..
I would like to be able to expand the RAM (up to 32GB) by myself (cuz ill save lots of money this way)
Is it hard to change the RAM manually? Could someone post 'step by step' photos or a video of how to change the RAM in the M4700 (It would be greatly appreciated) or at least give some guidelines... particularly for the 2 ram slots found below the keyboard (which seems to be tricky to get to)..

    Thks very much :D

Well, SO-DIMM is a kind of DIMM? The machine takes SO-DIMM modules (regular notebook/laptop memory modules).

The bottom slots are easy. Just take off the bottom panel and there they are.

To get at the top slots, you have to remove the keyboard. You have to remove the keyboard trim (best to have a flat object like flat-head screwdriver or knife), then remove the keyboard itself (5 or so screws), and then you'll be able to get at the slots there. The official manual on the Dell support site has step-by-step instructions and pictures.

    i have a question now too :)

i thought about to buy the dell u2711 with 2560x1440 Pixel
to use it together with the precision i have

the problem or more question i have now is will the k1000M be able to handle the 1920x1080 + 2560x1440 pixel?

    here :NVIDIA Quadro K1000M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
    it says something about 3840x2160px
"The improved feature set now includes support for up to 4 active displays. Furthermore, high resolution monitors of up to 3840x2160 pixels can now be connected using DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI 1.4a if available"

so...is it right that i CANT use both at the same time with the full resolution ?

What the specs are saying is that the max resolution you can have on a single monitor is 3840x2160, not that this is the max resolution you can run across all monitors you should be fine to run both monitors.

Thank you for your reply! I was just hoping that I could use some cheaper and lower-latency dimm (possibly low profile) modules in the m4700

Form factor makes it mostly impossible to use desktop size DIMMs. You can get some with pretty decent timings though. Like this for example: Amazon.com: HyperX Plug n Play 16GB (2x8GB) Kit of 2 1600MHz PC3-12800 DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 SODIMM Notebook Memory KHX16S9P1K2/16: Computers & Accessories. SODIMMs aren't all that much more expensive than desktop memory with the same specs for the most part.

Since the IPS display has had enough problems that they no longer offer it on the M4700, any clue on how good the color gamut on the 15.6" UltraSharp™ FHD (1920x1080) Wide View Anti-Glare display is?
