Yes, with the stock Win 7 installation I had those issues as well.

Thanks, this is indeed the cause. I started a single prime95 thread and locked it to a single core, and it turbos up to 3.6 GHz as it should :).

Weird, I found my touchpad to be excellent.

I agree, Max brightness is not very bright.

I would complain to dell, as my seams are all perfect.

Use dell's quiet power option when browsing. The fan almost never spins up in that case, unless you are operating the system in a very warm environment.

I was just going to ask what are the common faults and issues, and you posted this :) Are there any other common faults besides the ones that were listed?

Also, I heard the issues with the IPS screen on this model, and now you can't order it anymore. Does anyone have any idea as to when it will come back?

Here are the specs that I plan on purchasing (hopefully soon):

    3rd Gen Intel Core i7-3820QM
    15.6in UltraSharp FHD (1920x1080)
    16.0GB, DDR3-1600 SDRAM, 4 DIMM
NVIDIA Quadro K2000M with 2GB GDDR3, Dell Mobile Precision M4700
    256GB (SATA3) Solid State Mini-card Drive
    320GB 2.5" 7200RPM Additional Hard Drive
FIPS Compliant Fingerprint Reader, USH and Contactless Smartcard Reader
    Windows 7 Professional
Dell Wireless 380 Bluetooth 4.0 LE Module
    Slot Load DVD+/-RW Drive
    Integrated noise reducing array microphones
    Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 802.11n 3x3 Half Mini-card
    Internal Backlit English Keyboard

I got my M4700 today with similar specs. The left edge of the touchpad wasn't flush with the trim, so I tried pushing it and it's definitely better now.

    Some of the good:
    - Great look, reminds me of a F-117. I also love the white lights, it contrasts well.
    - Speakers are loud and the quality is pretty good for a laptop.

    The bad:

    - Even though I expected it, the machine is quite heavy. I can't imagine how heavy the M6700 is!
    - Everything seems small on the Full HD screen, I don't know if it's because i'm not used to a 15", but I have a feeling that I have more screen estate than I should (I use 3 x HD screen at work so i'm used to having lots of space). Maybe a Windows setting, I tried playing with the DPI but didn't get the result I wanted.
    - I was expecting much more from the backlighting keyboard. I can describe the effect as light slipping through the cracks.
    - The fingerprint scanner often do not recognize my swipe but I think I just need to get used to swiping my finger the proper way.
    - Coming from a Thinkpad T42p and T400, the nipple is definitely inferior on the DELL. Maybe it's just a question of getting used to it.

Overall i give it a 8.5/10 for now, it's pretty much what I expected. Can't wait to try it with the dock at work.

If you have a SSD drive, I suggest that you disable disk defrag and your paging file if you have a boatload of RAM.

We usually call that backlight bleed and it is something i noticed on a lot of backlit keyboards.

Alright, i have a M4700 with the AMD FirePro M4000 and I can't get 3 external monitors to work with the new e-port replicator plus.

I have 2 x DVI monitor + 1 VGA and I can only get 2 display to work at the same time. I do not need the laptop LCD.

My guess is that I need to use 1 x DVI + 1 VGA + 1 HDMI. Can anyone confirm this before I get an HDMI adapter since none of my monitor support HDMI. Thanks!

Not sure about the M4700, but on the M4600+M6600 with the AMD card, you could only use two non-DisplayPort displays. (Up to 5 are supported with a dock, but all but the first two must be DisplayPort.) To use additional non-DisplayPort displays, you'll have to get an "active" DisplayPort adapter.

    Here's the specs for reference:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...-owners-lounge-m4600m6600-multimonitor-3-.jpg

Now, I know the NVIDIA display configuration possibilities have changed on the M4700/M6700 (they are more flexible than the image shows) but I'm not sure about AMD.

Thanks, it seems the ATI FirePro M4000 is limited to 2 displays when using DVI connections. I'll switch to display port monitors this week to see if a 3rd monitor can be added and report back with the results.

Guys i wish to know if the M4700 that comes with Firepro M4000 still has the Intel Graphics 4000 intact.

This means that i can disable the Firepro M4000 and use the integrated graphics for egpu purposes or virtu lucid to save power consumption.

    Could anyone here verify this?

    Check this link:

    http://partnerdirect.dell.com/sites...00-Mobile-Workstation-Technical-Guidebook.pdf

There is 2 platform for this unit when it comes down to the integrated graphics issue.
If M4700 is configured with IPS panel, then you will lose the Integrated Graphics function. But i can't find information regarding which platform the AMD firepro graphics uses.

    Thanks

The Intel GPU is actually included in the CPU, so technically you'll have one; there's no way to activate it with the AMD Firepro card installed, however. You cannot disable the Firepro and use the integrated graphics for power savings.

(There are reports that you can physically remove the discrete graphics card and the machine will boot up with and use the Intel GPU, though, if that's something you'd be interested in. :p)
