    And another thread from me...

Bought a M4400 but want to retrofit a few things.

Just bought a backlit keyboard for it which should get to me tomorrow so that's fine.
Also a new lid (there were very minute marks on my current one

To make this complete...do you guys know whether I can retrofit a Fingerprint reader and also the webcam to it?

I have read a few threads on here but nothing about retrofitting it to a M4400

    Appreciate any help

I'm fairly certain you can install both on your own, but you may need to buy more parts than you think. Like if you're putting in the webcam, you probably need a new display bezel, and if you're putting in the fingerprint reader, you probably need a new palmrest, etc.

Please let me know how the webcam retrofit goes, I've been meaning to do that with mine, but havnt had the time to do the research for it. Also, how much did you get your keyboard for?

Got the keyboard from ebay for £12 all in - backlit and genuine etc
Should get it today so I'll let you know how that goes when I fit it tonight

The Webcam bit I need to check out the wiring first - given that I am replacing the lid to mine, it almost makes sense doing both at the same time but only if I have the connectors/wiring and it's easy enough

    Will report back

I just can't seem to source a palmrest with the fingerprint reader on it in the uk

    Hi aj84

I seem to recall there are different webcams for different displays, or rather the cabling is different lengths depending on whether you use an LED or CCFL display. I can't remember if this was ever confirmed, but you might want to bear it mind when you're browsing (or buy direct from Dell and be sure you're getting everything you need).

So far, I've managed to get hold of a palmrest and a bezel for the camera/mic (should I want them)
It's just the devices itself that I can't seem to find anywhere

If Dell sell these via a shop, I would be interested but it might be something that ends as a thought rather than actually doing it.

If the components are cheap then I will def do it as I am hands-on with things like this anyway.

The bezel and palmrest together would only be costing me around the £20 mark so it's not bad

    Now you tell me :)

Thanks for the offer - glad there are people out there still willing to give away! Unusual them sending you UK ones - I assume you live in the US and dealt with a Dell US too?

Still not able to find a webcam and/or fingerprint reader unless the E6500 one fits
