Yes, it's all about tradeoffs :) I'm getting mine tomorrow and hopefully it won't be a portable stove :D

Well, it looks like the heat is definitely an issue. Installed Bioshock and left it on a single level until the fan broke in and the chip started getting hot. The frame rate went from smooth to stuttering as soon as the fan kicked in. I can definitely play, but the frame rate drop is very apparent. Probably going to call dell to get this resolved if possible.

Yeah, i'm still under the 30 days, so they are sending out a replacement in 7-10 days.

I'm also going to reinstall windows xp and see if the drivers in xp help a bit.

I have just run my M4400 on 3dmark06, 5387 marks. Stock 176.07 drivers that came preinstalled. Windows XP. Temperatures up to 62C during testing, what I expected.

Thankfully not :) The fan is fairly loud when it is in full, much louder than my Vostro, I'll measure that next time I run some more tests. Thankfully the hard drive is a LOT quieter than the Hitachi on my Vostro as well. In that machine the hard drive had very audible clicks when it was retracting the read heads, but in the M4400 I'm pleased that the Seagate in it is very quiet. The Hitachi in the Vostro is 160GB 7200rpm and the Seagate in the M4400 is 120GB 7200rpm (I don't need much space) :)
