Hi I am looking for the Dell P/N 430-3099, it's and E-Module, External Media Bay for Latitude E-Family/ Mobile Precision, the idea is to install a Hard Drive or a DVD-ROM unit inside, I have not been able to find it within the Dell web site, thanks

How does this module connect? If it's eSATA then you can buy third party units with eSATA connectors.

Are you sure it is not p/n 430-3116 you are looking for?
It is the "External Media Bay Module for Select Dell Latitude E-Family Laptops / Precision Mobile WorkStations". See
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...oductdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=19&sku=430-3116 for more info. It seems that is only sold on the US Dell site so far.

There is a guy that sells a module on eBay ( http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-Exter...14&_trkparms=72:1234|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318 ) and he has some good pictures on it. It looks like it is hooked up in the combined E-SATA and USB-port. I would guess it uses E-SATA as interface and takes power from the USB-port.

do you think this means it will take sata hard drives through the esata but limit the dvd drives to pata to usb conversion ? or do they have sata dvd drives yet ?

Yes. Dell is using SATA notebook burners in the E series.

cheers for the reply john i only thought to check the bay last night with a torch and seen there wasnt the old pata connection and power connection

does the battery module somehow work through the sata power connection as i couldnbt see the terminal blades like the d series had for its modular battery ?

im going to start yet another thread about the intel storage manager maybe you could have a look at that and give me some of your exceptional thoughts ?

There is no bay battery option so there's no power connector. I think Dell decided that the battery they could fit into a 9.5mm bay (perhaps only 3 cells) wasn't worth the effort.

ahh i assumed there was one john just because i had one for my d620 and d820 , true tho it is a fair bit smaller, mind you these new chipsets do use less power apparently although im on a higher spec cpu than i was before

i rarely used my secondary battery anyways so im not fussed about its absense

Thanks for the link to the bay on Dell website.
Now, maybe anyone knows where I can get the casing for the HDD to fit into this bay (or in fact to replace the DVD in my notebook)
The general idea is that I have 2 E6400s (work+home) and I don't want to work from USB HDD so for that purpose the internal swappable would be perfect.
    Thanks,
    Maciej
