I considered the E7240 with 1920x1080 for a little bit, but I can't live with DPI scaling, so I had to get the 14". If you're OK with DPI scaling or really tiny text, it might be a possibility.

There is a lot to be said for less scrollbars in your life. Being able to remote to my 1920x1080 desktop at work without scrollbars up the wazoo is priceless. The small text doesn't bother me, but as always, to each their own.

Keep in mind that upgrading to a 1080P screen if fairly easy on the e7440 (not sure on the e7240 but I imagine it would be the same). The same cable/connection is used for the 720 and 1080P screens so you will not need to worry about finding the proper cable. The 1080P IPS (non-touch) screen can be found for about $80. The refurbs, with 1080p screens, on ebay and the Dell website often command a higher premium and you can get some great deals on laptops with 720p screens if you are willing to do the upgrade yourself.

I couldn't deal with its massive keyboard flex and terrible palmrest build quality. The hinges look very off too. There is something design-wise very lacking and awkward about the E7440 in real person. God I hate the design in real person...

I tried to make this word, but keyboard and not impressive all at touchpad ends it. Will wait for the new XPS 13 instead. This one is going back to Dell.

Just to follow up on the Linux debouncing/repeated key problem, it's not fixed in BIOS A12 unfortunately.

Has anyone compared the wigig wlan card and a default intel card? I love the wigig wireless dock option but it's the warmest part in my laptop by some margin. Can I put in a dell Intel 6200 card, is there a whitelist for the wifi cards?

Why do you want IPS? More power consumption, more weight, more pixel response time delay.
    All more bad stuff.

Thing you have to understand with TN display is you have adjust the brightness to your enviornment in order to optimize the display quality.

    Never tried swapping the displays.

Because i had chance to compare two versions of E7440, one with TN and one with IPS panel. The latter one is far better, angles are fantastic, colors too, this is by far best upgrade for E7440..

TN panels go off colour unless viewed straight on.

See the photos of the screens in my E7440 review. The two on the left are IPS or similar technology, the two on the right are TN. It's not so much adjusting brightness but have to change the screen angle depending on what you are looking at and how you are sitting.

Plus, for the E7440, the IPS (or similar good viewing angle technology) is FHD resolution and is much crisper than the normal 1366 x 768 panel.
