    Hello all

Couple of days ago I’ve got my Latitude 6510. Everything works fine, except for Latitude ON technology. I am not sure I really need it , but since it was one of the factors why I selected this model I would like to give it a try.

Latitude ON button was not working; there was no pre-installed Latitude ON software, so I decided to download everything from the DELL site.

Latitude ON firmware module software (500 Mb) did not install (“No FLASH module detected”)
However Reader 2.1 installed successfully and then I press Lattude ON button now it switches to Latitude ON mode, asks for password, then I can access Outlook data (but I do not have Web access etc).

    Questions:

    1. Is it possible that Latitude 6510 is not equipped with Flash module (I thought it is not an option)?
    2. Is it possible that Reader is working without the Flash module?
    3. Please help 

As far as my understanding goes, there are two things using that Flash name.

One is a Flash Reader which is a software. The other is Latitude On Flash which requires the physical card.

I reinstalled 64 bit windows on my pc and wiped the ON Reader and haven't been able to get it working. I didn't care about it too much because I already have Ubuntu on dual boot and I don't see any use for the ON reader.

ok how about Dell motherboard drivers, or older drivers. It might be a bug with the latest one. Else, call for warranty repair.. maybe something else at a hardware level that is broken.

My laptop originally did not have a backlit keyboard. I bought one on ebay and installed it, but I have not been able to get the backlight to turn on.

Fn+right did nothing at first. I then re-installed Dell ControlPoint System and Devices Manager (I had previously uninstalled all Dell bloatware). Now, when pressing Fn+right, ControlPoint tells me that I am cycling through off/auto/on, but the light still does not ever actually turn on.

I'm wondering if there is some driver I'm missing. Any thoughts??

There is no separate driver. I did the same upgrade for my E6410 and it immediately started working.

I use the "on" setting? Auto uses the ambient light sensor which may wait until near darkness before enabling the backlight.

You can also check the backlight brightness setting in DCP. It might be down at minimum although the default is maximum.

Brightness is at maximum. If no drivers are needed, then I guess the keyboard itself must be bad.

And, if the backlight is set to "on", then I would reach the same conclusion. However, first try remove / replace the keyboard in case there is a connection problem and while the keyboard is out, make sure it has a white, and not metal, back.

Yeah, I must not have inserted it in all the way. It is working after re-seating it. Thanks for the suggestion.
